YANKEES SUBMIT OFFICIAL OFFER AS CODY BELLINGER STANDOFF HITS THE FINAL STAGE

The Yankees have reportedly made an official offer to Cody Bellinger. Read why both sides are waiting for the other to blink.

Yankees submit official offer as Cody Bellinger standoff hits the final stage
Will Bellinger sign with the Yankees this week?

Cody Bellinger smashed 29 home runs and played lights-out defence in left field for the Yankees. That kind of impact—on both sides of the ball—pretty much explains why the team is so eager to bring him back.

Buster Olney echoed those feelings but pointed out the obvious: the Yankees and Bellinger are still stuck at a standstill. Negotiations have dragged on through the winter with no real breakthrough.

Nobody knows for sure if the Yankees will actually lock down this deal, but, honestly, most of the recent buzz makes it sound like they’re closer to a reunion than not.

Bellinger’s next contract is almost definitely going to hit nine figures. Still, with teams like the Mets and Dodgers rumoured to be lurking, all it takes is one phone call to shake things up and finally get this deal done.

Right now, it feels like both sides are waiting for the other to blink first.

For the Yankees, their outfield situation isn’t terrible—they’re basically just missing a right-handed bat to platoon in left and give the bottom of the lineup a little juice. Jasson Dominguez put up a 116 wRC+ against righties, so if they pick up someone like Austin Hays (who can hit lefties and play left) for around $5 million, they’d have a workable combo.

But let’s be real: a platoon like that doesn’t really stack up to what Bellinger brings. He crushes both lefties and righties and plays elite defence in the corners.

As for Bellinger, his market hasn’t exactly taken off the way people expected. The Mets have interest, sure, but they haven’t exactly pressured the Yankees into shelling out a bigger offer.

So now, you’ve got this weird standoff. The Yankees know their best version includes Bellinger in left, but they also know there isn’t a bidding war forcing their hand.

Drag this out much longer, and the Yankees will have another problem. If they want to trade for a starting pitcher, their best chip is probably Dominguez, who, at the moment, is pencilled in as their starting left fielder.

Bellinger, meanwhile, risks running out of time. If he can’t find the big offer he’s hoping for somewhere else, he’ll wind up negotiating with just the Yankees—and the clock, with spring training right around the corner.

SKY SPORTS’ EMMA PATON BREAKS DOWN LUKE LITTLER’S TRUE CHARACTER BEFORE SEMI-FINAL

Sky Sports presenter Emma Paton lifts the lid on world No. 1 Luke Littler’s real personality away from the PDC World Darts stage.

Emma Paton exposes the "chilled-out" truth

Sky Sports presenter Emma Paton has given a real look at what world number one Luke Littler is like when the cameras aren’t on him. This year at the PDC World Darts Championship, Littler’s been electric—hardly dropping a set on his way to a big semi-final showdown with ‘Heavy Metal’ Ryan Searle.

But things haven’t all gone smoothly. Littler, just 18, lost his cool after beating former world champ Rob Cross in the last 16. The crowd at Ally Pally threw their support behind Cross, even booing Littler as he stepped up for his shots. You could tell it got to him.

After the match, Littler faced the crowd and let them have it: “I’m not bothered, I’m not bothered, really, I’m not bothered! Can I just say one thing? You guys pay for tickets and pay for my prize money, so thank you for the money, and thank you for booing me!”

Later, backstage, Littler admitted he’d “lost his head” for a minute. But Emma Paton says this kind of outburst isn’t typical for him. She’s seen a different side—calm, down-to-earth, and nothing like the fiery showman who lights up the stage.

Talking to the Mirror before Littler turned 18, Paton explained, “It’s like chatting with any 17-year-old. He’s really relaxed. Off-stage, he’s just a chilled-out guy. On stage, though, he flips a switch—he’s a real entertainer.”

She thinks he’s handled the sudden fame impressively. “He was thrown into the spotlight, and he’s managed it so well. That says a lot about the kind of kid he is and the good people he’s got around him.”

Paton also pointed out how Littler deals with tough times. “It’s easy to talk when you’re winning, but you’ve got to face the questions when things aren’t going your way, too,” she said.

Before his Grand Slam wins in 2024 and 2025, Littler had a string of early TV exits. People started doubting him, wondering if he’d lost his edge. Through it all, he kept his composure. “Even then, he spoke really well. I think he’s a bit more comfortable in his own skin now—probably just comes with experience. But honestly, he’s always been great to talk to.”

HALL OF FAMER TROY AIKMAN HIRED AS CONSULTANT FOR MIAMI DOLPHINS GM SEARCH

Hall of Famer Troy Aikman joins the Miami Dolphins as a consultant. Read why Stephen Ross is using the analyst to find a new GM.

Dolphins bring in Troy Aikman

The Dolphins are in the middle of a messy hunt for a new general manager, and they’ve decided to get creative. Instead of sticking with the usual suspects, they’re bringing in Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman to help steer the GM search.

Yeah, you read that right—Aikman. He’s not exactly the first name you’d expect for this sort of thing. But with all the chaos swirling around the team right now, maybe it makes sense. Tua Tagovailoa just got benched, the whole franchise feels a little directionless, and fans are stuck wondering what’s next.

It’s also wild how much time has passed since they fired Chris Grier, who got the boot back on Halloween after that ugly 2-7 start. Owner Stephen Ross kept Mike McDaniel as head coach, which probably made the GM search even trickier.

Ross made his usual statement after the firing, promising more effort and no excuses. He said, “There is a lot of football left to play, and we all need to fight even harder… I have always been and remain committed to building a winning team that consistently competes for championships. Our performance on the field and our team-building process have not been good enough. There are no excuses. You deserve a championship-calibre team you can be proud of.”

Now, Aikman’s role isn’t totally clear. He’s not in the running for the GM job himself, but he’s jumping in as a temporary consultant—maybe he’ll just give advice, maybe he’ll have a bigger say. He’s spent decades in the broadcast booth, and his name definitely carries weight in the league. Still, you have to wonder how much influence he’ll really have.

The Dolphins have bounced back a bit since that brutal start, but once again, they’re watching the playoffs from home. Losing Grier made some fans happy, but a lot of the heat is on McDaniel, who’s only managed two playoff trips in four years and holds a 35-2 record—solid, but not exactly legendary.

So here comes Aikman, and honestly, it’s a fascinating move. Maybe his time as a colour analyst on Monday Night Football gives him an edge here. He knows the league, he knows the people, and he’s got a reputation you can’t ignore. But is this actually going to help the Dolphins find the right GM, or is it just a Hail Mary?

Aikman himself sounds cautious about jumping into a front office job. “I’m not opposed to hard work… It’s not so much the hours that would be involved; it’s more about, at my age currently, there would be a learning curve,” he admitted. “Would an organisation be willing to allow that to happen? It’s a young man’s game; it’s a young man’s world.” He might help out with the search, but he’s not itching to be the guy in charge.

For Miami, this move feels a little desperate, maybe a little bold. It could shake things up in a good way—or just add to the confusion. The only thing that really matters now is who they pick and what comes next.
