Manchester United look like one of the most serious contenders for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as Liverpool and Bayern Munich back off, according to transfer reporter Ben Jacobs.

Rogers made the leap from Middlesbrough to Villa for £16 million in February 2024, and honestly, he’s been tearing it up ever since. He’s become one of the Premier League’s standout talents, the kind of player everyone’s talking about. This season, he’s bagged 12 goals and nine assists across 48 matches. Rogers is playing so well, people are even saying he could start for England at the World Cup in the No. 10 slot, ahead of big names like Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer.

Now, the Premier League’s biggest clubs and a bunch of heavyweights in Europe are sizing him up for a summer move.

According to Jacobs, United are one of the top four teams most likely to land him, fighting it out with Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG. Liverpool and Bayern were interested for a while, but Jacobs says they’ve cooled off.

Jacobs reports for talkSPORT that Rogers is “likely to leave Villa” even if they make the Champions League, and Villa aren’t planning to block his path; they’ve set the price at £80 million.

United should keep an eye on PSG here. They’ve jumped into the race, and Rogers is apparently open to going abroad if the right offer comes in. He’s got a lot of respect for PSG manager Luis Enrique, which could swing things their way.

Back on April 11, we reported that Michael Carrick, United’s interim boss and the front-runner for the permanent job, had already told INEOS they should start talks for Rogers. By April 13, word was that United had made contact with Villa, and Rogers is “very open” to a move to Old Trafford.

United want to rebuild its midfield. Their main focus right now is on signing a defensive-minded midfielder to replace Casemiro, with Elliot Anderson, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Carlos Baleba as their main targets. But soon, attention could shift to finding Bruno Fernandes’ successor. Rogers fits the bill perfectly, and there’s even talk that United may try to bring Cole Palmer back to Manchester.

As for Anderson, United have been warned they could lose out on the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

They’ve also dropped their chase for an £87 million-rated forward, leaving Liverpool free to restart talks.

Michael Carrick is the front-runner to take over as United’s permanent head coach, though Sir Jim Ratcliffe has another candidate in mind. We’ll see how it plays out.

Fabrizio Romano has some fresh news about Manchester United's interest in Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Ederson from Atalanta.

Last summer, United poured most of their transfer money into attackers Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, all of whom joined the squad. Fans really weren’t thrilled that the club didn’t sign any midfielders, especially since that’s been a weak spot. The team looks stronger going forward now, but the plan for this summer is clear: United want at least two new midfielders.

Baleba was someone United checked out last year, but Brighton’s asking price scared them off. Lately, there’s been some buzz about Ederson from Atalanta, too. Romano laid things out during his latest YouTube update. He said United are set on upgrading their midfield, especially since Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro are both leaving. United will probably be linked to a bunch of midfielders, but they still haven’t decided who they’ll sign or which options they’ll activate.

Baleba’s been on United’s radar since August 2025. Apparently, he wanted the move, and terms between him and United were sorted, but it’s up to United to push ahead or walk away.

Now, about Ederson. Romano said Atalanta wants €45 m for him, and while he’s already agreed to personal terms with Atletico Madrid, Atletico haven’t sealed the deal because they think the price is too steep, especially with Ederson under contract until summer 2027 and not planning to sign a new one. Atletico are also looking at Julian Brandt and Joao Gomes from Wolves, who've been in their sights since January and are in talks with their agent Jorge Mendes.

Romano said two Premier League teams are eyeing Ederson, and United’s interest isn’t new; they were watching him last year, and he’s still on their list. United are up-to-date about Ederson’s situation, but nothing’s decided yet. Their moves depend on Champions League qualification and which manager takes charge. After that, they’ll choose which midfielders to go after.

Ederson’s been tracked by United for a while, but Atalanta wouldn’t let him leave last summer. Now, they’re ready to sell for €45m, but United still haven’t made a call.

Switching gears, Barcelona’s looking to renegotiate Marcus Rashford’s loan. Some reports from Spain claim Rashford will be the “first casualty” if Barcelona lands Julian Alvarez.

Romano gave an update on Rashford, saying he’s been great this season both on and off the pitch. Being at Barcelona isn’t easy, especially when you’re stuck on the bench, but Rashford stayed positive with teammates and the coach, who’s pleased with him. The ball’s in Barcelona’s court.

Right now, Barca wants to restructure Rashford’s loan. They haven’t triggered the €30m buy option from United, while United wants that clause paid or Rashford to come back, and they figure out whether to sell him outright or try something else.

There’s still a gap between what United and Barcelona want. Barca are considering other targets, and internally, they’re debating whether to keep Rashford.

Rashford’s keen to stay at Barcelona. He’s happy there and thinks he can shine even brighter next season. The connection is strong, but ultimately, it’s Barcelona’s call; either they activate the buy option or try to reach a new deal with United.

Paul Pogba has stirred up conversation about Manchester United’s place in world football, and honestly, it’s thanks to some pretty strong words about Bruno Fernandes. Pogba thinks Fernandes, United’s star midfielder, isn’t getting the recognition he deserves just because of where he plays. According to Pogba, if Bruno were at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, he’d be in the mix for the Ballon d’Or.

Even though Fernandes has been United’s most consistent player since he arrived in 2020, you don’t see his name near football’s top individual award. Pogba, who played alongside him 79 times, keeps coming back to Old Trafford’s environment as the thing holding Bruno back. He made the point on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, really questioning whether Fernandes can actually do more than he already does. If you drop him in that winning, well-oiled Manchester City machine, Pogba says the world would see Fernandes completely differently.

Pogba’s take is pretty clear: Team success usually opens the door for individual awards. He said, "Can Bruno Fernandes do more than he does now at United? Put him at City, and he’s right up there for the Ballon d’Or." Pogba rattled off Bruno’s stats, performances, everything, and argued that a change of scenery would change everything.

It’s kind of a brutal truth about how modern football works. The Ballon d’Or usually goes to players who shine in Europe’s biggest competitions. Pogba summed it up: “When you don’t win, no one even thinks about it. That’s just how football is.”

Looking at the numbers, Fernandes has been outstanding: 211 goal involvements in 322 United games, yet all he’s got to show for it is an FA Cup and a Carabao Cup. Pogba believes he deserves to be talked about alongside legends like De Bruyne, Modric, and Ozil. “He scored more than Frank Lampard in a season playing the same position. More assists. He’s all over the pitch, constantly running, clever with the ball, and able to shoot. He does it all.”

Now, with only five league games left, Fernandes is only two assists shy of matching the Premier League’s single-season record of 20, held by De Bruyne and Thierry Henry. He’s also got eight goals and could easily be named Player of the Year, no matter where United finish. He’ll be back on April 27 when United take on Brentford. Let’s see if he adds another chapter to his story.
