WHAT FRANCESCO TOTTI’S RETURN MEANS FOR AS ROMA

Discover the latest on Francesco Totti’s potential return and Devis Vasquez’s loan to Besiktas in this week’s Roma news update.

What Francesco Totti’s Return Means For AS Roma
Bringing Totti Back Is The Only Way To Save Roma’s Culture

As February winds down, we’re stuck in that weird lull between the winter and summer transfer windows—where rumours dry up, and nothing much happens. Sure, summer gossip will start up soon, but for now, we’re just waiting around, hoping Roma does something we’ll love (then probably hate later), or more likely, something that annoys us at first but we end up accepting anyway. Let’s be honest, if even Gian Piero Gasperini can’t make sense of Roma’s choices, what hope do the rest of us have?

Anyway, let’s save our complaints for another time and check out what’s actually going on this week.

Robino Vaz Picks Up a Calf Injury

Roma spent €22 million to bring Robino Vaz in from Marseille, but he hasn’t hit the ground running as Malen did. Still, there’s something about him—he’s got the size and speed you want in a forward. Bad news, though: he tore a muscle in his left calf, so we’ll have to wait a few weeks to really see what he can do. Reports say he’ll be out about three weeks. Honestly, it feels like every new Roma player has to go through their first Trigoria injury—it’s almost a rite of passage.

Devis Vasquez Heads to Besiktas

If you’re a goalkeeper sitting behind Mile Svilar, you’re not going to get much playing time. Devis Vasquez joined Roma on a free transfer from Milan last summer, but he never got on the pitch. Now he’s off to Besiktas on loan for the rest of the season, still waiting for his shot in the giallo e rosso.

Roma Negotiating New Contracts for Cristante and Mancini

Contract extensions usually split opinions, but these two deals have fans arguing already. Reports out of Italy say Roma is close to finalising new contracts for Bryan Cristante and Gianluca Mancini. Their agent, Giuseppe Riso, told Tuttosport that everything’s almost done—they just need the signatures.

We’ll get into the details of these extensions later this weekend. There’s no doubt fans will have plenty to say.

Francesco Totti—Coming Back?

Claudio Ranieri has stirred things up by hinting that Totti might make a return to Roma. Everyone’s weighing in, from Radja Nainggolan to Walter Sabatini. Ranieri didn’t give away much, just said the club is thinking about it. The big question is what Totti would actually do—will he have a real say, or just be a figurehead?

Totti means everything to Roma fans, so if the Friedkins are bringing him back, they’d better tread carefully.

KEAN SLAMS "UNTRUE" RUMORS REGARDING DISCIPLINE FOLLOWING 2-2 RESULT

Moise Kean scored his seventh goal for Fiorentina before hitting back at rumours questioning his commitment and training discipline.

Moise Kean Scores In Return To Starting XI As Fiorentina Draw Torino

Moise Kean doesn’t hide it—Fiorentina needs to step up after drawing 2-2 with Torino. But he’s not having the criticism. “I even showed up on my days off,” he fires back.

Fiorentina fell behind early when Cesare Casadei found space for a free header—nobody caught him as the offside trap broke down. Then Manor Solomon smashed in a long-range goal, and Kean followed up with a finish to put them ahead. It looked good, for a while at least. But late in stoppage time, they let it slip. Marking just wasn’t there on a free kick, and Guillermo Maripan nodded in the equaliser.

Kean isn’t making excuses for himself or the team. “We keep giving up late goals. Every time, we drop points that would pull us out of the relegation zone,” he says. “We can’t let our heads drop now. That’s the one thing that would destroy us.” He’s not all doom and gloom, though. “Honestly, I’m still optimistic about Fiorentina’s future. We’re going to fix these late defensive lapses and stop giving up cheap goals. We can’t afford it anymore. And we need everyone in Florence behind us. If we don’t stick together, we’re not getting out of this.”

This was Kean’s first start in three matches—he’s still fighting off an ankle issue that just refuses to heal. “I’m feeling better, getting stronger every day,” he says. The guy’s doing everything he can.

And what about those stories floating around? The ones about him showing up late to training? He’s heard them. He’s tired of them. “Who’s saying this stuff? It’s just not true. I’ve always been at Viola Park, even during the tough times, even on my days off. Sure, I had a family thing I had to deal with, but other than that, I don’t know what people are talking about.”

Kean’s still leading the charge for Fiorentina, tied as their top scorer with seven goals in 26 games. Alberto Gudmundsson has seven, too, but he’s done it in 30. Kean’s not backing down.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY INJURED AGAIN AFTER SCORING SCREAMER IN NAPOLI VICTORY

Discover why Antonio Conte is worried about Scott McTominay’s hamstring injury following Napoli’s dramatic victory at Marassi.

Scott McTominay Is Currently The Most Productive Midfielder In Italy

Scott McTominay lit up the night for Napoli with a stunning goal, and Rasmus Hojlund grabbed a dramatic last-gasp winner as the Serie A champs edged Genoa 3-2 on the road.

It wasn’t easy for Napoli at Stadio Luigi Ferraris. They fell behind early, pulled themselves ahead, then got pegged back to 2-2. Still, Gli Azzurri held on and stayed third in Serie A, six points off Inter, who play Sassuolo on Sunday.

Napoli don’t look as unbeatable as they did last season under Antonio Conte, and a long list of injuries isn’t helping. McTominay, Scotland’s midfield engine, didn’t finish the game. Conte said after the match that McTominay is dealing with tendon inflammation near his hamstring—a problem that’s bothered him all year. “It hurts, but he can still play, even if he has to hold back sometimes,” Conte explained. “He wanted to stay on, but I’d rather have someone fully fit out there than take dumb risks. He’s too important for us. We’re hoping he recovers soon.”

Billy Gilmour, another Scot and a product of Rangers’ academy, missed out again—still injured.

Genoa struck first, just three minutes in, with Ruslan Malinovskyi burying a penalty. But Napoli hit back quickly. On-loan Manchester United striker Hojlund levelled things up after 20 minutes, scoring his first Serie A goal of 2026. Two minutes later, McTominay picked up the ball and unleashed a rocket from a distance, burying it in the bottom corner to put Napoli in front.

Genoa didn’t roll over. Lorenzo Colombo equalised on 57 minutes, and things got worse for Napoli when Juan Jesus saw red for a second yellow.

It looked like the points would be shared, but deep into added time, Napoli won a penalty. Hojlund stepped up and buried it, cool as you like, past Genoa keeper Justin Biljow.

Now, Napoli turn their attention to a home Coppa Italia clash with Como on Tuesday, before hosting fourth-placed Roma at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona next Sunday.
