ARSENAL AND MARSEILLE ENTER DIRECT TALKS FOR ETHAN NWANERI LOAN DEAL

Ethan Nwaneri, Arsenal’s 18-year-old midfield prodigy, is deep in talks over a switch to Marseille. He’s hungry for regular minutes, and a loan move looks like the answer.
Right now, Arsenal and Marseille are working out the details. Nothing’s set in stone just yet, but Nwaneri wants to play more, and both clubs seem open to a deal. It’s only a loan—no option to buy—but Arsenal would get a loan fee out of it.
Nwaneri is travelling with the squad to Milan for their Champions League match against Inter. After the game, Mikel Arteta’s bound to face questions about what’s next for the youngster. A bunch of clubs from England and abroad have circled Nwaneri this January, and football.london even reported Arsenal turned down West Ham’s loan bid earlier in the window.
Arteta actually got grilled on this whole Nwaneri situation a few weeks back. He wasn’t nearly as firm as he was with Gabriel Jesus, whose future he shut down immediately. On Nwaneri, though, Arteta left things pretty wide open.
He said, “That every player is important. Every player has a role; that role can change throughout the season for different reasons, and everybody has to be ready to play. That’s it.”
Arsenal’s attack has taken a few hits from injuries this year, especially up front. Martin Odegaard’s already dealt with three different fitness issues, too.
Even so, Arteta’s got options. Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino, and Kai Havertz can all slot into that attacking midfield spot if needed.
Oddly enough, Eze has also struggled to get minutes lately. And it’s not just Nwaneri making waves—Max Dowman, another young talent, has caught the coaching staff’s eye.
For Nwaneri, breaking into the matchday squad has been tough. He made the trip to Italy, but last weekend, when Arsenal faced Nottingham Forest, he didn’t make the Premier League squad again.

Arsenal and Ajax have reportedly reached an agreement for Zinchenko to go out on loan. The 29-year-old started the season at Nottingham Forest but barely saw the pitch. After falling out of favour at Arsenal in the summer, he got the go-ahead to join Forest, but things didn’t really work out there either.
Now, Ajax look set to snap him up on loan. Zinchenko is supposed to have his medical in the Netherlands this week. With his contract at Arsenal running out at the end of the season, it looks like his time in North London is just about over. Dutch outlets are even hinting that Ajax could offer him a longer deal.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are lining up a £56 million bid for Jeremy Jacquet, who’s also on Arsenal’s radar. The Rennes centre-back is making waves, but Chelsea seems to be leading this race. Rennes want big money for their 20-year-old defender and are deep in talks with Chelsea.
Liam Rosenior’s squad want to shore up their defence this month. Arteta likes Jacquet too—apparently, they’ve even talked—but Chelsea looks ready to seal the deal. Jacquet, by the way, missed Rennes’ last game against Le Havre because of a suspension.

Arsenal missed a golden chance to pull away from Manchester City at the top of the table. City lost the derby to United, but Arsenal couldn’t break down Forest and had to settle for a point. They could’ve gone nine clear, but nothing clicked in front of the goal.
Arteta started his £64 million summer signing, Viktor Gyokeres, at the City Ground. It just didn’t happen for him—he barely got a sniff and came off for Gabriel Jesus with half an hour left. Sure, Gyokeres scored against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final a few days earlier, but in the league, he’s only found the net once since November.
Even with Jesus and Kai Havertz fit again, former Premier League keeper Tim Howard doesn’t think Arteta will ditch Gyokeres just yet. Howard told NBC Sports he understands Arteta has to “manage the situation” but warned him not to “embarrass” the striker Arsenal bought to fix their scoring problem.
Asked if he thinks Gyokeres will get dropped, Howard said, “It’s a big call. I’d say no—they were desperate to get him in the summer and spent big to do it. Arteta needs to handle this carefully. He probably can drop him, honestly, because he’s got plenty of options. But you can’t just haul him off at half-time or humiliate him. You’ve still got to get the best out of him.”
On Arsenal’s performance, Howard said, “They’re going to have days like this. Usually, Arsenal grind teams down with set pieces and patience, but today, it just didn’t come. I think Arteta will be annoyed with his subs—he threw on some impact players, but nothing really changed. That’ll frustrate him.”
Arteta, for his part, tried to stay positive after the draw. “Of course, we wanted to win. We knew it’d be tough—Forest set it up to make it hard. We had four massive chances and a clear penalty, but just didn’t put them away. We have to do better, no question, especially when we create so much. But this is happening to every team in the league right now. We still have to step up."
He added, "Credit to Forest; they’re well-organised and always find ways to slow you down. We pushed right to the end and tried to find a goal. I don’t think we gave up a single shot. But that’s football—fine margins, and we couldn’t get over the line.”
Arsenal’s schedule doesn’t get any easier. They face Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, then it’s Manchester United at the weekend.
