At the recent Crown Jewel: Perth Premium Live Event, AJ Styles explained the significance of his ring attire while competing against WWE's "Never-Seen-Seventeen," John Cena.
Before the unexpected occurred in 2016, the two-time WWE Champion claimed to have "accepted as truth" that he would never sign with the sports entertainment capital. Before that, AJ Styles was referred to as Mr TNA, a local talent who was a legitimate rival to Vince McMahon's top performers.
After a change in circumstances, Styles eventually signed a contract with WWE and made his WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble. He faced The Franchise Player within a few months. That year, the two faced off at the Money in the Bank and SummerSlam PLEs, with Styles winning both occasions.
When Cena defeated him to win his record-tying 16th World Title at the 2017 Royal Rumble, the Phenomenal One repaid the favour.
In the last matchup with John Cena at WWE Crown Jewel: Perth, AJ Styles wore his ring gear.

Styles wore tights for this match, which was unlike any of his encounters in the Stamford-based organisation and brought back memories of his early TNA days. Specifically, the clothing he wore was based on the outfit from the inaugural TNA program on Spike TV in October 2005. This was the most important event in The Phenomenal One's career at the time.
More significantly, though, he was wearing the same outfit directly across from Cena on the cover of a January 2006 issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
"This was for everyone who recalled that magazine cover," Styles told the Boston Herald. "I did not wear the same equipment. I have no idea where that equipment is. A fresh set had to be constructed for me. Thankfully, my gear maker did the necessary research and created it precisely the way I wore it in TNA.
Ultimately, a month after being humiliated by the return of WWE and UFC legend Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, John Cena reclaimed some momentum when he defeated AJ Styles at Crown Jewel. He still has four gigs left, three of which are next month, and a farewell performance at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII on December 13.
As for AJ Styles, the defeat did not hurt him because he and Dragon Lee ended the second reign of Finn Balor and JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day by winning the World Tag Team Championship on RAW just this past Monday.

In Mexico, McLaren CEO Andrea Stella implied that Red Bull's choice to continue working on its 2025 vehicle was a reflection of a lack of clarity surrounding the upcoming Red Bull-Ford power unit.
However, that notion has been rejected by team manager Laurent Mekies and Dr. Helmut Marko.
Mekies stated it has nothing to do with 2026.
"We would have too many unanswered questions going into 2026 if we did not get the most out of this car by the end of the season. We made the decision to spend more money on this vehicle in order to fix its shortcomings and increase its speed.
It greatly increases our confidence in our 2026 tools, strategies, and techniques. Yes, the new project will require less time and effort, but it was a deliberate choice. Performance has nothing to do with it.
According to the Frenchman, the team's strategy is centered on comprehension rather than risk. "We think there will be a net benefit, so we are doing this. We can apply our methods to 2026 and are now verifying them. If it led to difficulties, we would not do it.
Yes, there is a cost, but we think it is worthwhile.
Red Bull's momentum was halted by Mexico as Norris resumed his winning ways, despite Verstappen's recent race surge. Despite replacing an unproductive Oscar Piastri as the championship leader, Verstappen actually cut his overall lead to 36 points.
Norris' resounding win was a welcome change for Stella. Verstappen is still a competitor, but we have the advantage in the next races, he stated.

It will be interesting to watch if the Grand Slams address those issues and make adjustments in 2026.
