EDDIE HOWE DECIDES YOANE WISSA DEBUT AMID TONALI INJURY DOUBT
Yoane Wissa (29) is nearing his long-awaited debut for Newcastle after recovering from a knee injury. Howe will make a decision soon.
Yoane Wissa is trying to get into Newcastle United's squad for Saturday's home game against Burnley. It would be his first time playing for Eddie Howe.
Wissa hasn't played since early September because he hurt his knee playing for DR Congo. He joined the Magpies at the last minute but hasn't played yet.
The team paid £55 million to get him from Brentford. He's been working with the club's doctors to get better from his knee injury. He started training harder last week.
The 29-year-old also played in a private training game. Howe said he'll play in another one this week before the game.
This means the striker might be able to play on the bench when Burnley comes to St. James' Park on Saturday for a very important Premier League game.
Howe didn't say much about Wissa's chances of playing. He said he needs to watch him train for the next two days before deciding.
"I don't know; we will see how the week goes," he said. We've got a lot more training to do, so we'll see.
Newcastle got good news this week: Wissa won't be playing in the African Cup of Nations next month with DR Congo. People were worried he'd leave as soon as he got better, missing a month of games during the holidays.

Howe will also check on midfielder Sandro Tonali. The Italian didn't come back after halftime against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday because he got hurt in the first half.

“I think we've been close before. I feel we're headed in the right direction when you look at how we’re playing, Howe said as he talked about his team’s showing.

“I think we will win games because of the kind of play that we have, and that’s what happened. We're not feeling super confident right now, which is clear.
“But, I think it’s mostly a confidence thing. And the only way to fix that is to win the next game.”
Howe said this: “It was a huge win for us. I don't think it matters how we got it. We just needed to get it.
“We started really strong, knowing how crucial this game was. I can’t say enough about how the players fought through it.
“That second half was significant for us. We had to make it.

Newcastle United now has a few days to chill after the win at Turf Moor before heading back to Tyneside for four home games in a row. First up is Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday. After that, they’re up against Daniel Farke’s Leeds United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, January 7.
Then, they’ve got two cup games against Premier League teams. They’re hosting Bournemouth in the FA Cup and then playing the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City.
