SHOCK VERDICT REACHED: MAN UTD DECIDES JADON SANCHO CONTRACT STATUS IMMEDIATELY

Jadon Sancho's Manchester United contract expires in six months, making him a free agent. The winger, currently on loan at Aston Villa, is also attracting interest from Turkish clubs and a potential return to Borussia Dortmund.

According to reports, Jadon Sancho's difficult four years at Manchester United are coming to an end. Despite being an England international in the past, he has never played for Ruben Amorim. After spending the previous season on loan at Chelsea, he briefly played for Aston Villa in 2025–2026.

The 25-year-old has played 336 minutes this season, with the Premier League accounting for little under 25% of that total. The player has mostly been used by Unai Emery in the Europa League. He has yet to start in that competition, as evidenced by the short duration of his appearance against Manchester City, when he was substituted on and off again right away. Emery then claimed that fitness concerns were the reason behind the decision, given that Sancho had previously played 67 minutes in Europe just days prior. According to information about his future at Old Trafford and the three teams he could sign with next season, he is a member of Villa's reserve team.

In light of this, Express Sport has investigated Sancho's circumstances at Villa Park, his contract with United, and the possible teams he might join.

United's decision on the contract

Sancho signed a five-year contract when he moved from Borussia Dortmund to United in 2021, and it will expire in around six months.

Given his loan stints elsewhere, Sancho will depart the team as a free agent, according to Fabrizio Romano, after making 83 appearances and tallying 12 goals and six assists during what is technically only two years.

Although United will be happy to let go of his high salary, they will undoubtedly be sad at the possible loss of a player they spent £73 million on.

Sancho might be re-signed by his old team, Borussia Dortmund, where he helped them win the 2024 Champions League final before a disappointing loan term at Chelsea.

Where Unai Emery stands

Emery certainly thinks highly of Sancho, but it is unclear if he intends to sign him long-term. Sancho's loan from United did not include an obligation to buy provision, although Villa, who are paying 80% of his salary, would probably be in the lead if they chose to negotiate a deal at the end of the current campaign.

According to reports in September, Villa was already thinking about making his move permanent. However, this idea has been called into question due to Sancho's minimal playing time since his summer transfer.

However, Villa manager Emery is certain of Sancho's skills. When questioned about the choice to sign the winger, Emery said, "When Leon Bailey left, it was a moment for us to analyse the players we had identified via our scouting."

"After that, we had the chance to sign a player, and Jadon Sancho was on our list. He offers something different and can play on either the left or right wing. He is a talented 25-year-old athlete, and I thought he did a great job at Chelsea last season.

"Yes, he had some issues at Manchester United, but he was a great player at Borussia Dortmund. He has also represented England 25 times. He is still young, hungry, and capable of demonstrating his abilities.

Hopefully, this will help him reach his greatest potential. He has played more on the left in recent years, but he was more frequently on the right at Dortmund. He can play both of those spots here, in my opinion.

Sancho will not have a break clause and is anticipated to finish the current season on loan at Villa, thus United will not be able to recall him in January.

Sancho is expected to leave United when his contract expires in the summer of next year, but he may be able to finalise his departure in the January transfer window.

According to CaughtOffside, Sancho's team had "discreet but substantial meetings" with officials from Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Besiktas during the November international break.

The Turkish trio reportedly discussed their separate ambitions for Sancho during these talks, which took place at a posh hotel. Additionally, it has been implied that Sancho might be open to accepting a pay cut from his present £13 million each season.

VAR REVIEW: CHELSEA 2-2 BOURNEMOUTH, ESTêVãO PENALTY DRAMA EXPLAINED! WAS IT A FOUL OR A DIVE

Explaining the VAR: How an 11th-minute penalty check at Stamford Bridge saved a point for Chelsea against a resilient Bournemouth.

Antoine Semenyo’s clumsy challenge handed Chelsea a vital lifeline

Every week, the Video Assistant Referee stirs up drama in the Premier League. Let's break down how these calls are made and if they're actually right.

This season, we're digging into the big moments to explain the VAR process and the rules of the game.

What went down: Chelsea's Estêvão was moving into the Bournemouth box, with Antoine Semenyo on his tail. Estêvão went down after some contact with Semenyo. The ref, Barrott, waved off Chelsea's penalty shouts, saying there wasn't a foul. He thought both players made contact naturally as they were running, and Estêvão basically tripped himself.

VAR said, "After looking at it, VAR Pawson suggested Barrott take another look at the monitor for a possible penalty because Semenyo might have tripped Estêvão."

VAR's take: Pawson had to figure out if the contact was just part of the play, like the ref thought, or if Semenyo fouled Estêvão. It was clear Estêvão tripped, but the question was how the contact started.

At first glance, it would be hard for Pawson to disagree with the ref because the main TV angle wasn't clear. But after checking out the sideline and behind views, Pawson saw that Semenyo stepped into Estêvão's path, making enough contact with his leg to cause him to trip.

Pawson told Barrott to check the monitor for a possible penalty. Barrott watched the replays, agreed, and gave Chelsea the penalty.

The call: It was a reasonable VAR call based on today's standards. But it's a borderline case.

Barrott seemed unsure of the monitor and needed some convincing from different angles.

A lot of the time, this kind of contact is just from players running normally, and someone goes down. To give a penalty, there really needs to be a clear foul by the defender. You could say that happened here, but it's a pretty low standard for VAR to get involved.

BREAKING: UNAI EMERY REVEALS THE REAL REASON BEHIND HIS COLD ARTETA HANDSHAKE SNUB NOW

Unai Emery explains why he skipped the post-match handshake as Arsenal’s 4-1 win ends Aston Villa’s 11-game streak at the Emirates.

Emery snubs Arteta's handshake

Unai Emery said he didn't shake Mikel Arteta's hand right after Aston Villa lost at the Emirates Stadium since the Arsenal manager kept him waiting.

This loss stopped Villa's winning streak at 11 games, their first in almost two months.

Villa held their own in the first half, but Arsenal scored early in the second when Gabriel got to the ball before Emi Martinez on a corner.

Martin Zubimendi quickly made it 2-0, and Leandro Trossard scored a third goal a little after an hour had passed.

Soon after entering the pitch, Gabriel Jesus scored, making it 4-0. Ollie Watkins was able to respond by tapping in a goal late in the game after Donyell Malen's nice play.

After the game, Emery waited to shake Arteta's hand, but he went to the locker room since Arteta was still celebrating with his team.

It’s easy to see. I like to do things fast,” Emery said when asked about why he didn’t shake Arteta’s hand.

“I shake hands, then I go to the dressing room with my players and coaches. I was waiting.

“Arteta was busy with his coaches, so I went inside. It’s not a big deal for me.”

About the match, Emery commented, “We played great in the first half, and things were going our way. We had corners and defended well. We didn’t let them get a corner in the first half.

“We felt good, but we let in the first goal in the second half. Onana getting hurt didn’t help since he’s important for set pieces and in the midfield.

“We didn’t quit, and we kept playing hard. We scored one goal and almost scored more. Arsenal is the best team in the league and should win the title.

“I’m not sure which day it is since we’ve played Arsenal twice already, and we still have to play Nottingham. But I’m happy with our goals and how we're trying to attain them.
