SALAH REPLACEMENT FOUND? LIVERPOOL SCOUT 19-YEAR-OLD BUNDESLIGA DUO FOR SUMMER 2026 MOVE

Liverpool leads the £65m race for Adam Wharton while scouting Yan Diomande and Said El Mala as potential Mohamed Salah replacements.

Salah replacement found? Liverpool scout 19-year-old Bundesliga duo for summer 2026 move
Is Said El Mala the "hidden" Bundesliga gem to replace Mo Salah

Liverpool is keeping a close eye on two top Bundesliga prospects as part of their long-term planning, and one of them could end up replacing Mohamed Salah. With fresh reports of Saudi clubs circling Salah again, new sporting director Richard Hughes isn’t wasting any time. He’s already digging into possible successors.

Salah just got back into Liverpool’s starting lineup after AFCON and played the full 90 in the Champions League win over Marseille. Still, this might be his last season at Anfield, and nobody’s really sure who’s going to fill his shoes if he leaves.

Right now, Liverpool is watching Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and Said El Mala from Cologne. Both are just 19, but they’re very different players. Diomande’s already made a name for himself—seven goals, four assists this season—and just about every big European club wants him. There’s even talk that Liverpool is putting together a massive €100m bid for him this summer.

El Mala, on the other hand, is still a bit raw but has loads of technical ability and potential. Liverpool is interested in both, especially since Cody Gakpo hasn’t really clicked on the left wing this year. There’s a chance they could bring in both youngsters, depending on how things shake out.

Either way, Liverpool isn’t just standing still. They’re actively tracking some of Europe’s best young talent, always thinking about what comes next.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has also jumped to the front of the pack for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. He’s become one of the most wanted players in England, and it looks like a huge move is on the cards for him in 2026. Manchester United and Tottenham are in the mix, too, and even Chelsea, Newcastle, and Real Madrid are watching, but the latest word is that Liverpool is leading the chase.

Wharton likes Liverpool’s long-term vision, even though the club have had a rough time defending their title this season. The Reds see him as a top-tier signing, and our sources say Palace will sell this summer if someone comes in with £65m.

United see Wharton as Casemiro’s long-term replacement, and Spurs want to pair him with Conor Gallagher. Both clubs are serious, but the buzz is that Liverpool is out in front right now.

And then there’s Alisson. Liverpool journalist David Lynch thinks this could be the Brazilian keeper’s final season at Anfield. Alisson’s been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign, but with just 18 months left on his contract, there’s talk he could be sold this summer—especially since Giorgi Mamardashvili is already waiting in the wings.

Lynch suspects Liverpool might trigger a contract extension just to get a better transfer fee, but the feeling is strong that Alisson’s time on Merseyside is winding down. He’s had chances to leave before, he’s getting older, and the club clearly sees Mamardashvili as the future. So, it’s definitely a story to watch as the summer approaches.

TRANSFER DEFENSE: ARNE SLOT BREAKS SILENCE ON SELLING LUIS DíAZ TO BAYERN MUNICH

Arne Slot defends Liverpool's decision to sell Luis Díaz for €75m, citing club sustainability and Alexander Isak's injury woes.

Liverpool refused Luis Díaz’s wage demands before the Bayern Munich move?

Arne Slot thinks all the talk about whether Liverpool misses Luis Diaz this season has only gotten louder because Alexander Isak’s still out.

Isak’s first season at Anfield has been rough. He’s started just six Premier League games, hasn’t played a full match since joining from Newcastle last summer, and hasn’t even set foot on the pitch since December, when he broke his leg while scoring the winner against Tottenham. He should be back soon, but honestly, Liverpool’s attack struggled for a while. People were quick to complain about their lack of goals and creativity earlier in the season, even though lately they’ve found more rhythm up front.

Luis Diaz set a high bar when he was at Liverpool, and since he left, pundits keep saying the club messed up by letting him go last summer.

But Slot isn’t second-guessing that decision, even with Diaz racking up 32 goal contributions for Bayern Munich this season.

“You always miss top players. He was huge for us last year, but he wasn’t the only one who mattered,” Slot said before Liverpool’s upcoming match at Sunderland. “Plenty of players made a difference in our results. I think we’ve brought in some really good replacements, too.

“And to be honest, if Alex had stayed healthy, would people even be having this conversation?”

Bayern paid €75 million for Diaz, a sum Liverpool just couldn’t turn down for a 28-year-old with two years left on his contract and big wage demands.

The club didn’t want to meet those demands, and when Bayern came calling, the move made sense for everyone.

“Luis Diaz is a great example of how this club is run. If someone offers that kind of money for a 28-year-old, Liverpool, because we care about sustainability, we will sell. That makes us kind of an outlier at the top of the Premier League,” Slot said.

“But that’s also what makes what we’ve done lately so impressive with this model. And honestly, seeing Diaz thrive at Bayern doesn’t surprise me at all.”

BETTER OPTIONS? THE REAL REASON ARNE SLOT REFUSES TO START CALVIN RAMSAY

Arne Slot confirms he will not use Calvin Ramsay against Sunderland despite losing four right-backs. Read the full injury report.

Calvin Ramsay’s Liverpool Career Reaches a New Low Under Arne Slot.

Arne Slot has said that he isn't planning on using Calvin Ramsay, even though Liverpool has some injury problems at right-back.

The Reds are heading to Sunderland on Wednesday night with a few defensive selection issues.

Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley, the team's first and second choices for right-back, are both injured. Dominik Szoboszlai, who can also play on that side of the defence, is suspended.

Joe Gomez might be back from his injury, but his return is still uncertain, and Slot will also be without centre-back Giovanni Leoni.

When asked about Ramsay at a press conference on Tuesday, Slot said, Usually, if you lose a game, the players who aren't playing suddenly seem like the best ones. It happens everywhere.

This is another example. I want to support all my players. I've picked other players until now, and I'll continue to do that tomorrow.

Slot mentioned that Gomez could be back and that midfielders Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo could also play right-back.

Liverpool does have Calvin Ramsay, a right-back, available in the squad.

The Scotland international joined from Aberdeen in 2022 but has only played three times for the first team and hasn't yet played in the Premier League.

It doesn’t look like Ramsay will get a chance on Wednesday, as Slot explained why he doesn’t plan to pick him.

Joe hasn't practised with us yet. 'I think he'll be back today,' Slot said.

If Joe can't start, we're missing four players who can play right-back. Curtis and Wata have played there before, so we've had six different right full-backs.

Ramsay signed with Liverpool for over £4m under Jurgen Klopp but has spent time on loan at Preston, Bolton, Wigan, and Kilmarnock.

He's been with the first team this season, sitting on the bench during Sunday's loss to Manchester City at Anfield.

That was the eleventh time Ramsay has been on the bench in the Premier League this season, and he hasn't been used.
