BOOTH WATCH: THE SHOCKING PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 2022 QATAR AND 2026 USA TICKETS
FIFA President Gianni Infantino defends 2026 World Cup ticket prices, citing 150 million requests and global soccer development.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino defended the high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup this Monday. He said they've already gotten over 150 million ticket requests during the latest sales period, which is just wild.
Infantino mentioned that most of the money from the tournament—happening in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico next summer—will go towards helping soccer grow around the world. He stated plainly that without FIFA, there would be no soccer in 150 countries in the world.
He made these comments at the World Sports Summit in Dubai. It was his first time talking publicly since the ticket application period started in early December, which caused some anger when fans saw the prices.
Some initial round games are going for $140, but the U.S. opening match against Paraguay in Los Angeles next year could cost you as much as $2,735.
The knockout rounds are even pricier. The cheapest ticket for the final in New Jersey in July is $4,185, and the best seats will set you back $8,680.
FIFA then said they'd have $60 tickets for each of the 104 games for fans of the teams playing; however, there are not many of these tickets.
You've probably caught on that there's a lot of talk about ticket prices, Infantino said before dropping that they'd gotten 150 million ticket requests since December 11, calling it absolutely crazy.
This shows how powerful the World Cup is, he added.
FIFA's been standing by its December prices. They're way up from previous World Cups and often higher than earlier sales this year. FIFA says most of the tournament's money is going to grow soccer across the globe.
There is soccer because of the money we get from the World Cup, which we put back into soccer worldwide, Infantino said in Dubai.
The current sales period is open until January 13. People can try to get tickets for any of the 104 games. FIFA says it doesn't matter when you apply; everyone has the same shot.
AFCON: FULL DETAILS ON MOHAMED SALAH’S BENCHING AND HIS LIVERPOOL RETURN DATE
Mohamed Salah is benched for Egypt's clash with Angola. Discover why the Liverpool star is resting and his 2026 return timeline.
So, Mohamed Salah is on the bench again today, but it’s not as dramatic as his recent issues at Liverpool.
The guy's playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, trying to win his first title with them. They’ve had a great start, winning against Zimbabwe and South Africa, with Salah scoring the deciding goal in both matches.
Egypt is playing Angola in their last group game today, but Salah is on the bench, according to Hossam Hassan.
No one said Salah is injured. He was seen hanging out with his teammates before the game at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.
It probably means the Liverpool star is just getting some rest because Egypt is already moving on to the next round after beating South Africa on Boxing Day.
The Pharaohs are guaranteed to win the group. The tie-breaker is head-to-head records. South Africa is the only team that could tie with Egypt's six points, so Salah’s team is finishing at the top of Group B.
So today’s game doesn't really matter for them. Omar Marmoush from Manchester City is also on the bench, which shows what Hassan is thinking for the next games.
Don’t expect Salah to blow up like he did earlier this month at Liverpool. He went off on his club and coach, Arne Slot, after being on the bench for three games, accusing the Reds of throwing him under the bus.”
After that, he was left out of the Champions League game against Inter Milan. Then he was back on the bench against Brighton—a game he thought might be his last for the club.
Who knows if that’s true? Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, is supposedly meeting with Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, while he’s away.
No one knows when Salah will be back at Liverpool, but he’ll miss at least two more games for the Reds.
Egypt's next game is on Jan. 5, so Salah will miss Liverpool’s games against Leeds on Jan. 1 and Fulham on Jan. 4.
EXPERT ANALYSIS: GIANNI INFANTINO EXPLAINS HOW WORLD CUP REVENUE FUNDS GLOBAL SOCCER DEVELOPMENT.
Gianni Infantino reveals 150 million ticket requests for 2026. Discover why FIFA is bringing the Best Awards to Dubai next year.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke up about ticket prices for the upcoming World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He mentioned that there's a huge interest in them and that the money made goes back into supporting soccer around the globe.
Some fan groups weren't happy this month, saying tickets were way pricier than they were for similar games in 2022. After that, FIFA introduced a $60 ticket range to help fans from qualified teams be able to afford to go.
Infantino said at the World Sports Summit in Dubai on Monday, “We’re selling six or seven million tickets, and in just two weeks, we already got 150 million requests. That’s 10 million requests a day! It just goes to show how big the World Cup is.”
He continued, “FIFA has sold 44 million tickets in its almost 100-year history. So, in just two weeks, we could have sold enough tickets for 300 years of World Cups. That’s insane!”
Infantino also noted that fans from the U.S. have requested the most tickets, with Germany and the United Kingdom following close behind.
He added, “The really important thing is that the money we make from this goes back into supporting the sport worldwide. Without FIFA, 150 countries wouldn't have soccer. The sport exists because of the money we make from the World Cup, which we then reinvest globally.”
Next year, Dubai will be the host city for the FIFA Best Awards.
These awards recognize the best players, coaches, and teams in both men's and women's soccer. The winners are chosen by votes from fans, media, captains, and national team coaches.
Infantino said, “I’m happy to announce that we’ve partnered with Dubai to celebrate the best players, coaches, and teams right here.”
He shared that we’ve all had fun with the sport, and now we'll have even more fun with how it brings everyone together.
France's Ousmane Dembele was picked as the men’s player of the year, and Spain's Aitana Bonmati won the women’s award in 2025.
