CONFIRMED: BRUNO FERNANDES REMAINS A VOCAL LEADER IN TRAINING DURING HIS INJURY LAYOFF

Ruben Amorim confirms Bruno Fernandes is out against Wolves. Read the manager’s joke about the captain wanting his job here.

Confirmed: Bruno Fernandes remains a vocal leader in training during his injury layoff
Fernandes is still leading United despite being injured

Ruben Amorim joked that Bruno Fernandes might be after his job. He said that even when Fernandes is injured, Man United's captain stays a true leader.

Fernandes wasn't in the 1-0 win against Newcastle because of a hamstring issue. He'll also miss the Wolves game.

Amorim said that Fernandes shows how dedicated he is by watching his teammates train and constantly talking to them.

He said, Even after treatment, he watches training. He's always there. I don't know if he wants my job, but he's a leader.

“He's always talking; that's why he's the captain. He has some bad habits, like how he waves his arms, but he does a lot of good things and is always into the game.”

“Every recovery, he watches the other guys training that day. There are a lot of things you guys don't see that he does. He's a great leader all the time.”

Before getting hurt in the recent loss to Aston Villa, Fernandes had only missed two games due to injury during his time at United. Although he is eager to recover quickly, Amorim insists he won't be back this week.

“No way is he going to play against Wolves,” he said with a smile. You can write that down.”

United will still be short on players for the Wolves game. Amorim is waiting to see if Mason Mount, who was subbed at halftime as a precaution, will be out.

Defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are still out. Amorim added, “I don't know about Mase for that game.

“I don’t think Kobbie Mainoo is ready. Bruno is not going to be ready either. I don’t think Matt and Harry are going to be ready. So, I guess we aren't getting more players back.

Amorim is not sure if any injured players will be back for Sunday’s trip to Leeds. Bruno was already saying he needs to train, but we don't know.

“Kobbie Mainoo is going to start on the pitch too, so we will see. Matthijs is having a little trouble. Harry is the same way. I don’t think these guys will be back for this game or the next one.

JANUARY HOMECOMING: BRUNO FERNANDES BACKS SHOCK JAMES GARNER RETURN TO OLD TRAFFORD NOW

Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes approves the return of James Garner from Everton as Ruben Amorim plots a January midfield overhaul.

Bruno Fernandes Gives "Thumbs-Up" to James Garner Transfer

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes is cool with going after Ruben Amorim's transfer target, since the Red Devils are thinking about snagging a former player this January. They're reportedly looking at bringing Everton midfielder James Garner back home. Another guy they might target is Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, an England guy who's been playing great this season.

But, from what the Daily Mail says, Garner is moving up the list, and Captain Fernandes has already given him the thumbs-up. Big changes are expected in United's midfield over the next transfer window. There are whispers that Asemiro, Fernandes, Toby Collyer, Manuel Ugarte, and Kobbie Mainoo might be leaving. Though they have plans for the future, United's midfield is thin right now. Even centre-back Lisandro Martinez had to fill in during the Aston Villa game.

If Fernandes and Mainoo get hurt, it'll probably push Amorim to look for some backup in the January transfer market.

Garner's contract with Everton is up this summer, so he could be a smart buy for United. He was with the club for four years, though mostly out on loan.

Everton's trying to get Garner to sign a new deal since he's been a star at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but people think United might try to grab him in January.

Again, Fernandes seems to really like James Garner and would be happy to see the player come back to Old Trafford.

Back in 2021, during a Q&&Aon United's website, Fernandes said he was a fan of the club's younger players, especially Garner.

I think we know some of them already, Fernandes said. Jimmy Garner, I think, is a really good player. I really like him and the way he kicks the ball.

He's really aggressive off the ball, too. [Anthony] Elanga was already playing with us, and this preseason, he has been brilliant.

He's a nice kid, works hard, and is really humble, and I think he's deserving of everything that's happening to him. I see a bright future for him and Jimmy, too, and also for all the other kids.

Plus, in 2022, when a fan on X (Twitter) asked which academy player he was stoked to play with, Fernandes picked Garner.

We'll see if United signs their old player next month, but either way, it sounds like it'll be a crazy window for the Red Devils.

MID-JANUARY UPDATE: AS ROMA EXPECTS JOSHUA ZIRKZEE ARRIVAL ONCE AMAD RETURNS FROM AFCON DUTY

Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly agreed to join AS Roma in January. Ruben Amorim warns that no one leaves United without a replacement.

Man Utd Receive Official Roma Bid for Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee has told AS Roma yes and is set to join them in January, if you believe the Italian press.

Zirkzee, who's 24, made a big splash when he came to Old Trafford in the summer of 2024. His £36.5 million transfer on a five-year contract was the first big move under the new Sir Jim Ratcliffe ownership.

Back then, Erik ten Hag was in charge, and Zirkzee was brought in to try and add some firepower to a struggling attack. The team had only managed 57 Premier League goals in the 2023-24 season.

But things didn't pan out as planned. Last season, the forward only managed seven goals in 49 games. And since Ruben Amorim took over from Ten Hag last November, Zirkzee hasn't been getting much playing time.

As Daily Mail Sport said before, he wants to get more game time ahead of next summer's World Cup, so he is checking out other teams.

La Gazzetta dello Sport says the Dutch player had good chats with Roma's sporting director, Ricky Massara, and coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, which led to him agreeing to the switch.

Apparently, Gasperini told Zirkzee he'd fit right into his 3-4-2-1 setup, which he made famous at Atalanta, playing in any of the front three positions.

The Italian paper also says Zirkzee should be in Rome by mid-January. By that time, United should have Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo back after the AFCON tournament.

Don't think it'll be easy, though. Amorim has said nobody leaves Old Trafford unless they bring in someone to take their spot.

It's going to be hard for someone to leave if we don't get a substitution, the United boss said.

We are short. Even with the full squad, we are short for something that can happen.

We are a club with a big responsibility… we need to win every game. There are no excuses.

Roma is supposedly trying to work out a six-month loan first and then buy Zirkzee in the summer for around £35 million. That would mean United gets most of its money back.

If this goes ahead, Zirkzee might not be the only United player heading to Italy. Kobbie Mainoo is also interested in a move to Napoli, where Scott McTominay is doing well.

But Amorim still thinks the young midfielder has a future at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo will have the chance, Amorim said. He's going to be the future of Manchester United; that's how I feel. He just needs to wait for his chance, and things can change in football fast.

Napoli seems to be in the lead for Mainoo. But United isn't too keen on short-term replacements in January and might wait until the summer to bring in a new midfielder.

They are keeping an eye on Everton's James Garner, who is entering the last six months of his contract.

Daily Mail Sport also mentioned that Garner, who came up through United's youth system, is seen as a cheap option to add alongside bigger signings in the summer, with Elliot Anderson being their main midfield target.
