SHOCK: GARY NEVILLE AND PAUL MERSON UNITE TO BLAST LENY YORO’S "JOGGING" DEFENSIVE EFFORT

Gary Neville and Paul Merson destroy Leny Yoro for "wandering" as Morgan Rogers scores a solo stunner for Aston Villa.

SHOCK: Gary Neville and Paul Merson unite to blast Leny Yoro’s "jogging" defensive effort
Leny Yoro failed the Morgan Rogers litmus test.

Gary Neville wasn't happy with Leny Yoro after Aston Villa scored against Manchester United. He said Yoro messed up by not getting to Morgan Rogers fast enough.

For most of the first half at Villa Park, neither team had many good scoring chances. Then, in the 45th minute, Rogers scored a solo screamer.

McGinn passed to Rogers on the left. Rogers controlled the ball, cut inside, and blasted a shot past Senne Lammens from just outside the box.

But just three minutes later, Matheus Cunha equalised with a great goal of his own.

Rogers wasn't done. In the 57th minute, he beat Yoro again and scored, his fourth goal in two games.

Neville praised Rogers' special goal, but then he criticised Yoro's poor defending.

"That's so special from Morgan Rogers," Neville said on Sky Sports.

McGinn passed to him after a tussle with Luke Shaw. Yoro didn't close him down quickly enough. He just sort of wandered over.

I thought, 'Uh oh, this could be bad,' because Rogers can do that.

Yoro needed to get out there faster and force him outside the box.

But even after that, Rogers still had a lot to do, and he did it!

Aston Villa had an okay first half, but Morgan Rogers is having a great season, and that was a fantastic goal.

Neville added, I've played that position. When you're up against a good player, you have to move over and get in close if his touch isn't great. You can't just hang back.

Yoro just wandered over, which was a big mistake.

Paul Merson agreed with Neville. He blasted Yoro for jogging across and not forcing Rogers down the line.

It was a great goal, but it shouldn't have happened, Merson said.

You have to force him down the line, but Yoro just jogs across and lets him cut inside.

With all the analysis they do, you have to force him down the line. It was a great finish, but he shouldn't have even had the chance to try that.

JUST IN: WHY ROY KEANE SAYS £62M STAR MATHEUS CUNHA IS "THE REAL DEAL."

Roy Keane labels Matheus Cunha "the real deal" but blasts Manchester United’s defence after a 2-1 loss to Villa.

Cunha’s "Big Chance Conversion" rate

After Manchester United's loss to Aston Villa, Roy Keane pointed out one player who impressed him.

Morgan Rogers scored a great goal to get things going at Villa Park, but United's Matheus Cunha, who joined in the summer, evened the score right before halftime.

Even though Ruben Amorim's team played better overall, Rogers scored a second goal, giving Aston Villa a 2-1 victory and their tenth straight win since November 6.

This win means Aston Villa will be in third place in the Premier League on Christmas Day, just one point behind Manchester City and three points behind Arsenal.

Manchester United, on the other hand, is now seventh in the league, three points away from the Champions League spots.

Even though the Red Devils went home with nothing, Keane saw some good things in United's play and is still impressed with Cunha, who joined the team this summer.

Cunha, who came from Wolves for £62.5 million last summer, scored his second goal for United in the game against Aston Villa. He also had a great chance to tie the score in the second half, but missed.

When asked on Sky Sports if he saw potential in Cunha, Keane said, He's more than just potential; he's the real deal.

There was no doubt about the goal; it was a fantastic finish. But then he misses an easy shot in the second half, which doesn't make sense. It's hard to believe he missed it.

Keane, a former captain, also talked about United's performance in general, saying, I wouldn't say they were unlucky; they gave up two goals.

They've let in six goals in the last two games, which isn't good enough. We praise their attack, and they're more of a threat, but they're giving up too many chances and goals. You can't improve if that keeps going on.

United can fight, and they showed it again, but they need to be more intense when defending and show more.

You can't let in six goals in two games and expect to win because you're making it too difficult for yourselves. They're not good enough when they don't have the ball.

Amorim said in his post-match interview that Manchester United was the 'better team' against Aston Villa.

"I think we were the better team," Amorim said. We were better.

We stopped their attacks well, and they did a great job. We did a very good job, but no one will remember it tomorrow because the result is what matters.

I think we deserved much more, but the better team didn't win.

Track United’s midfield transitions, without Fernandes

Manchester United's coach, Ruben Amorim, had a rough day. They lost to Aston Villa 2-1, and Bruno Fernandes got hurt.

Fernandes tried to play after hurting his leg late in the first half, but he couldn't continue after halftime.

His injury didn't help United, who were playing well and tied at halftime.

But Amorim's got more to think about than just Fernandes' injury. United could have tied if they'd finished better. The loss did have some good points, like two teenagers making their debuts.

What did Amorim think of the game? “We played better. We were unlucky, especially with Bruno's injury, but even without him, we still played better. We did great, but no one will remember that. Only the result matters.”

Is this the worst time for a key player to get hurt? “We have to get the other guys ready for the next game. The pressure is still on. No one will remember these issues, so we just have to deal with them.”

You changed your midfield for this game, and it worked: “We knew Aston Villa packs the middle, so we needed to dominate that area. We practiced like that. Now we have options for every game.”

How did you react to Bruno's injury, since he's almost always available? “It's weird, but we've had tons of problems this year. We just have to cope. Fletcher played his first game, which is great. Lacey too. We'll find solutions for the next game.”

Any thoughts on how bad Bruno's injury is? “I think it's a soft tissue injury, so it'll take some time to heal. We'll see.”

What does it mean to give debuts to academy players Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey? “It's a mix of everything. It's the club's history. I've only been here for six years, but even Sporting values their academy. Every coach wants to bring up academy players. I just want to win and make sure the academy players don't struggle too much.”
