TRANSFER ALERT: ASTON VILLA PREPARE TO SIGN BRENNAN JOHNSON FROM TOTTENHAM THIS JANUARY
Aston Villa mean business! Discover why Unai Emery is raiding Tottenham for Brennan Johnson after securing Brazilian star Alysson.
Word has it that Aston Villa is thinking about grabbing a Tottenham player this January. Apparently, they've already got a deal lined up for another player, according to a recent report.
This season is kind of wild for the Villa. They're only four points behind Man City at the top, they've won nine games straight in all competitions, and they're actually in the running for the title—something nobody expected.
Unai Emery isn't talking about winning anything big just yet, but the stats speak for themselves.
Villa's been playing their best since way back in 1919. They haven't won the league since 1981 or any major trophy in 30 years, but here they are, sitting third and four points ahead of Chelsea.
The change has been pretty amazing.
They started the season with five games without a win and couldn't score to save their lives, ending up near the bottom. But now it's December, and they've beaten Arsenal and Man City at home. Plus, they are the first team this whole season to get over 2.1 expected goals against Arsenal.
Behind the scenes, Villa is already planning for January.
They've already got Brazilian teenager Alysson from Gremio for around £8.7m, which could go up to £10.5m if he plays well.
This 19-year-old winger is just the kind of player Emery likes—young, eager, and able to adapt. Gremio will get 10% if Villa sells him later. The deal should be done early in the transfer window.
That's according to Graeme Bailey, a journalist. He also said Villa is looking at Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson.
Bailey says Villa is now in the running for Johnson this January.
The Welsh player hasn't been playing much under Thomas Frank in north London. Mohammed Kudus came in the summer, pushing Johnson down the pecking order.
Johnson scored the goal that won them the Europa League in May and scored 18 goals overall last season, being their top scorer in 2024/2025.
James Maddison even called him a 'relentless' player.
But this season, he's only started six league games, playing less than 900 minutes. The 24-year-old isn't a key part of Frank's plans, so he might leave in January.
Now, Villa would be a whole different story. They play European football and are actually trying to win the title. Plus, he'd get to work with one of the smartest coaches from Spain.
So, we probably shouldn't count Villa out just yet.
The team wants to bring in a new striker this winter, and they have a few players in mind.
THE SHOCKING REASON WOLVES FANS PROTESTED AGAINST FOSUN DURING THE BRENTFORD CLASH
A dark day at Molineux: Wolves fall to Brentford 2-0 amid fan protests, owner resignations, and a missed late penalty.
Wolves had a terrible Christmas, hitting a Premier League low after their 10th straight loss. Brentford beat them 2-0 at Molineux, with Keane Lewis-Potter scoring twice.
Rob Edwards' team couldn't repeat their near-miss against Arsenal from last week, and their awful, winless season start just kept going.
Mistakes let Lewis-Potter score twice in what was a messy and boring game. Wolves are dead last with only two points from 17 games going into Christmas.
That's as bad as Sheffield United in 2020/21, but they'd played fewer games then.
Wolves fans were mad, chanting, "You're not fit to wear the shirt." To top it off, Jorgen Strand-Larsen had a late penalty saved by goalie Caoimhin Kelleher, and the game ended with loud boos.
Before the game, the stadium was quiet in remembrance of Ethan McLeod, a 21-year-old who came up through the academy. He died in a car crash on his way back from Macclesfield’s game on Tuesday.
His family and friends stood by the field, along with his brother Conor, who plays for Wolves' Under-21s.
Edwards made some lineup changes, but a promising start faded fast. Brentford ended up controlling the ball more than usual.
In the 18th minute, fans held up signs that said "Our Club," asking the owners, Fosun, to sell after Jeff Shi stepped down as chairman.
Soon after, Kelleher tipped a shot over the bar, but it wasn't until the 32nd minute that either team actually took a shot—the longest wait in a Premier League game in six years.
There was only one shot on goal in the first half, and Jose Sa saved Lewis-Potter's shot.
Early in the second half, the Wolves' goalie stopped Kevin Schade twice.
But Wolves fans could see what was coming and started singing about old club legends just as Brentford scored in the 63rd minute. It could have been avoided.
Vitaly Janelt's hopeful ball bounced over Ladislav Krejci, and Lewis-Potter smashed the loose ball home.
Wolves tried to tie the game, but Brentford almost scored again.
It didn't take Brentford long to score again, though. In the 83rd minute, Lewis-Potter stretched to turn in a cross.
Many Wolves fans left, but those who stayed saw their team get a late penalty. Kelleher was called for a foul on Matt Doherty.
VAR checked the call and agreed, but Strand Larsen's penalty was saved after a strange run-up, and Wolves fans questioned his technique.
The game ended with loud boos at Molineux.
LAST MINUTE DRAMA: ARMANDO BROJA SAVES BURNLEY WITH CRUCIAL GOAL AGAINST BOURNEMOUTH TODAY
Armando Broja ends Burnley’s 7-game losing streak with a 90th-minute equaliser. See how the Clarets escaped Bournemouth with a point.
Burnley and Bournemouth ended in a 1-1 draw after Armando Broja scored late, denying Bournemouth their first Premier League victory since way back in October.
This could be a really important point for Burnley as they try to avoid being relegated. Broja, who plays for Albania, scored with a header from Marcus Edwards' cross. Believe it or not, it was Burnley's only shot that actually threatened the goal.
Bournemouth can only blame themselves since they had the ball more but didn't make the most of it. Antoine Semenyo did score the game’s first attempt, but that was the only one that Bournemouth could muster as well.
Semenyo scored after Josh Laurent slipped, curling in a nice shot. Bournemouth is happy to have Semenyo available during the busy holiday games since Ghana didn't make it to the Africa Cup of Nations. Whether he will still be playing at the club is another question.
Most of Bournemouth's 16 shots missed the goal, and Martin Dubravka was not tested. David Brooks had many chances, and Semenyo and Justin Kluivert also had good looks but failed to take them.
Burnley nearly scored at the end of the first half when Jaidon Anthony, playing against his old team, shot the ball from Laurent's cross. Offside was called. VAR reviewed it and agreed with the original call.
Bournemouth hasn't won in eight games. The last time they won was on October 26 against Nottingham Forest. They have tied their last three games and are currently 14th with 22 points. A few fans booed at the end of the game at Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth switched up two players. Tyler Adams was out because of a knee injury, and Adam Smith was on the bench. Lewis Cook was back after being suspended, and David Brooks was in the starting lineup.
Burnley made six big changes. Kyle Walker, Joe Worrell, Jaidon Anthony, Zian Flemming, Lucas Pires, and Josh Laurent were all in the starting lineup.
Axel Tuanzebe, Maxime Esteve, Quilindschy Hartman, Florentino Luis, Lyle Foster, and Armando Broja were out; only Florentino and Broja made the bench.
Burnley now has 11 points but is still near the bottom, five points away from safety. It was their first point in seven Premier League games.
