Sorting the XI: Paul Put Narrows Down Cranes Squad Ideas Before Tunisia Opener
Cranes Coach Paul Put Hunts Control and Focus for Tunisia

Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put is likely to switch things up against Gabon on Wednesday. This comes after a workout against AS Far Rabat. He's getting ready for their AFCON opener against Tunisia.

Uganda's AFCON 2025 prep is now in the stage coaches value: sorting, testing, and narrowing down ideas.

Saturday's 2-2 draw with AS Far Rabat wasn't the end, just a pause.

Paul Put now has a better idea of what's working and what needs work before facing Tunisia in their Group C opener in Rabat next Tuesday.

Against one of Morocco's best club teams, the Cranes showed some spark early on.

You can’t let up.

Denis Omedi's early goal and Ivan Ahimbisibwe's second-half goal showed a team ready to play and compete. They weren't afraid to challenge a tough opponent.

I liked their courage, but not the second-half slump when the game slipped away.

"We played with courage, but I wasn't happy with how we handled the ball in the second half," said Put.

Time to get serious.

Paul Put will likely make changes against Gabon

This isn't about using the same lineup but about making improvements. Several players from Europe could be available, and Put will likely make changes for a reason.

The game against Gabon, who have more experience than Far, gives them a better warm-up.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still the main guy—his movement can punish mistakes.

Even when Gabon isn't at their best, Aubameyang makes it dangerous. He makes you remember that mistakes at Afcon are costly.

A needed test.

This is the test Uganda needs. Tunisia, Tanzania, and Nigeria won't be forgiving.

Gabon's speed will demand solid defence and focus for the whole game. Put has said these things are key.

Saturday's game also showed Uganda's midfield group, with Bobosi Byaruhanga and Travis Mutyaba playing in front of Khalid Aucho.

Omedi looked more sure of himself, and his goal was because of his movement.

James Bogere's start showed promise.

The young player created chances, missed a few, and tired out as the game went on. But Uganda now has depth.

Wednesday is about making adjustments. Put will want good play without being reckless.

Those who missed the Far game could be added. Allan Okello is also likely to play.

After Gabon, there's Tunisia on December 23, a game where mistakes are costly.

The Rabat game showed Uganda can compete. The Gabon game will show if they can control the game.

TITLE HOLDERS REBOUND: VIPERS SC MOVE TWO POINTS OFF KCCA AFTER KITENDE VICTORY

Vipers SC powered past BUL 3-1 in the second half, securing a vital three points that leave the defending champions just two behind league leaders KCCA.

Can Vipers Sustain Title Push After Questionable Minnaert First Half

Vipers SC, the current titleholders, got back on track at home against BUL. Meanwhile, Calvary and Mbarara City ended their game in a 1-1 tie, a result that didn't do much for either team as they sit at the bottom of the league table. This wrapped up Matchday 10 on Saturday.

Vipers are now close behind Startimes Uganda Premier League leaders KCCA, thanks to their 3-1 victory over Bul at St. Mary's Stadium on a chilly Saturday evening in Kitende.

After a lackluster first half, many fans probably wondered if coming to the game was the best idea, especially with the threat of rain.

The first half was uneventful, with the only real excitement coming when Bul's goalie, Tom Ikara, tipped Livingstone Mulondo's header from a free kick over the bar.

This raises the question: Have the Vipers improved at all since last season under Belgian coach Ivan Minnaert?

However, three minutes into the second half, Enock Ssebagala changed the game. He hit a loose ball perfectly, sending a 25-yard volley past Ikara.

Suddenly, the game had life. Bul tied the score seven minutes later when Jeromy Kirya's low free kick missed everyone and fooled Vipers' goalie, Alfred Mudekereza.

But Bul's joy didn't last long. The referee, Wilberforce Oloya, gave Vipers a penalty when Milton Karisa's header toward the goal hit a Bul defender's arm.

It was a debatable call, as the defender's arm seemed to be in a normal position. After Bul's complaints, Karim Watambala calmly scored the penalty, putting Vipers ahead 2-1.

As Bul fell apart, Vipers took advantage. In the 64th minute, Usama Arafat made it 3-1, running onto Kelvin Barni's weak header and lifting the ball over Ikara.

With this win, Vipers move back into second place with 21 points, just two behind KCCA. For Bul, who have now lost four games in a row after a 25-match unbeaten run, alarm bells are ringing. They sit in 12th place with only 10 points.

VIPERS SC HIT CRISIS POINT: TWO DRAWS STOKE MINNAERT PRESSURE AHEAD OF BUL TEST

Vipers' poor run—including a shock 0-0 draw with Calvary—has put Minnaert in the hot seat. Can they recover against Bul on Saturday?

Can Minnaert Survive Bul Clash

Vipers' Startimes Uganda Premier League campaign has hit a snag after a disappointing 1-1 draw with NEC and a surprising 0-0 draw with Calvary.

At Vipers, bad performances aren't tolerated. Coach Minnaert needs to act fast to fix their tactics and get the team back on track before Saturday's game against Bul at St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende.

The game against Calvary should have been an easy win, but instead, it showed the Vipers' weaknesses.

Even though Allan Okello, Rogers Torach, and Hillary Mukundane were away with the Uganda Cranes, Vipers were still expected to beat Calvary, who only had one point before the match. But the Vipers looked uninspired, were outplayed physically, and seemed mentally weak. Their defense was exposed, just like in the NEC game.

The recent setback leaves Vipers with 18 points from eight matches, behind KCCA. Minnaert now has to work hard to turn things around early in the season.

The team will be relying on key players like captain Milton Karisa, Yunus Sentamu, Usama Arafat, and Isaac Ogwang to lead them while their teammates are away.

To make things worse, assistant coach Fred Muhumuza has left to join the Uganda Cranes, leaving Minnaert without a key assistant.

John 'Ayala' Luyinda is still there, but there are reports that Simon Peter Mugerwa may join the coaching staff. Changing coaches mid-season is never ideal, but Vipers is known for making quick changes when performances drop.

Whatever changes Minnaert makes, they need to work quickly because Bul will be fighting hard.

Abbey Kikomeko’s team hasn't won in its last five matches, with losses against Express, NEC, Kitara, Entebbe UPPC, and KCCA.

They're currently 11th with 10 points from nine games, close to the bottom of the table.

But games between Vipers and Bul are often unpredictable. In their last five meetings, there have been two draws, two Bulls wins, and one Vipers win. Usually, the current form doesn't matter.

The stakes are high. If Vipers slip up, KCCA and SC Villa could increase their lead. That would put Minnaert in a difficult position, especially after a disappointing CAF Champions League performance.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Calvary (two points) will face Mbarara City (six points) in a game that could determine who gets relegated.
