AFRICAN GEM: BARCELONA WINS RACE FOR AL AHLY TEEN STRIKER HAMZA ABDELKARIM
Barcelona is reportedly in the lead to sign Al Ahly's 17-year-old scoring sensation, Hamza Abdelkarim. The target man is expected to join Barça Atletic in January.
Reports came out a few weeks ago about Barcelona's interest in Hamza Abdelkarim, Al Ahly's 17-year-old scoring star.
It wasn't clear then if Barcelona was seriously after the striker or just keeping an eye on him.
Now, Mundo Deportivo says Barcelona is way ahead in the competition to get him.
So, what's happening?
Sources say Barcelona is in the lead to sign the Egyptian player and is close to a deal.
If all goes well, Abdelkarim should join Barça Atletic in January, around his 18th birthday.
Scouts are said to like what they've seen so far.
They say Abdelkarim is a big centre-forward, a classic target man who can finish well and has a presence in the box.
He still needs to work on his passes outside the box, but his scoring and raw talent make him one of the best young players in African soccer.
Barcelona's relationship with Al Ahly has gotten stronger recently. In July, some important people from Al Ahly visited Barcelona.
That group included club president Mahmoud El Khatib and Mohamed Kamel, president of Red Castle Company and head of Al Ahly’s stadium project.
That visit helped the clubs communicate better.
Abdelkarim could join Barça Atletic at the perfect time.
The youth team doesn't have a striker right now because Oscar Gistau and Victor Barbera are hurt.
Gistau should be back in mid-January, but Abdelkarim would really help the team right away.
DREAM OR FARCE: BARCA'S "WEIRD PLAN" TO USE MARCUS RASHFORD TO GET JULIAN ALVAREZ
Despite Marcus Rashford's impressive form on loan, a wild report claims Barcelona wants to sign him permanently only to immediately swap him + £61M for Atletico's Julian Alvarez.
A strange story says FC Barcelona might include Marcus Rashford in a swap with Atletico Madrid.
This past summer, Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Man Utd, with an option to buy him for about £26 million.
After getting back in form during his loan at Aston Villa at the end of last season, the England player got his dream move to Barcelona.
Barcelona looked at other options but chose Rashford after missing out on Luis Diaz and Nico Williams. Head coach Hansi Flick was drawn to Rashford's ability to play many positions.
Rashford was only supposed to play a small role for Barcelona, but he's been playing so well that Flick has had to play him a lot. He's been impressive this season, with six goals and eleven assists in 21 games.
So, it seems likely Rashford will join Barcelona for good. But a new report from Spain says they have another idea in mind.
Instead, Barcelona is said to have a weird plan to sign and then trade Rashford in the same transfer window. The story claims they want to include him in a £61 million swap deal with Atletico Madrid to get Julian Alvarez, who used to play for Manchester City.
Will this actually happen? Probably not.
The report adds that the conditions are set for this deal, with Barcelona using Rashford and £61 million to try and get Alvarez.
The report says Atletico Madrid isn't against signing Rashford if Julian Alvarez ends up at Barcelona. Diego Simeone really likes Rashford, especially his speed and how directly he attacks from any position. Getting a player like that would make up for losing a player as good as Alvarez.
So, Atletico has set its terms. They think Julian Alvarez is worth €120 million and Rashford is worth about €50 million. Because of this, they want an extra €70 million for the deal to go through.
Wes Brown, who used to play for Man Utd, talked about Rashford's good form over the last year. He said Rashford was always going to do well after leaving Man Utd.
Marcus Rashford was always going to play well after leaving Manchester United. He was at the club for so long, and not all of it was fun for him, especially the last few years, Brown told BetWright Casino.
He got a lot of criticism toward the end of last season. I don't blame him for wanting a change, and I think his leaving was good for United too. No one thought he would leave and be bad, but he just wasn't in the right place to play well at United. It wasn't working.
It's great to see how well he's doing now at Barcelona. He's doing great, and he deserved to be back in the England team. I'm sure he'll have a good World Cup.
NOU CAMP ROARS: JULES KOUNDE DOUBLE COMPLETES BARCELONA COMEBACK VS FRANKFURT
Jules Kounde was the hero, scoring two goals in four minutes to power Barcelona's 2-1 Champions League comeback win against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Nou Camp.
Jules Kounde scored twice as Barcelona came back from a goal down to beat Eintracht Frankfurt in their first Champions League game at the Nou Camp in over three years.
Frankfurt took the lead in the 21st minute when Ansgar Knauff got on the end of Nathaniel Brown's pass, fended off Alejandro Balde, and put the ball past Joan Garcia.
Marcus Rashford, who came on as a substitute at halftime, had a quick impact, crossing from the left for Kounde to head in at the 50th minute.
The France defender scored again three minutes later, connecting with Lamine Yamal's pass when he was open six yards out.
This win puts Barcelona, who have won the Champions League five times, at 10 points from six games. With two games left, they're still in the running for a top-eight spot, which would send them straight to the last 16, skipping the playoff round.
Hansi Flick's team plays Slavia Prague on January 21 and finishes their group stage at home against Copenhagen a week later.
Eintracht Frankfurt, who are seventh in the German Bundesliga, are in danger of being knocked out of European competition with only four points from their first six games.
This was Barcelona's fourth game at the Nou Camp since it reopened last month after renovations.
The last Champions League match at the stadium was in October 2022, when they lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich. In February 2023, they played in the Europa League.
The Nou Camp started its £1.1 billion renovation in June 2023 to modernise the stadium and increase its capacity to 105,000, which would make it one of the biggest in the world.
After playing most of the last two seasons at the Estadi Olimpic, which hosted the 1992 Olympics, the Nou Camp reopened with a reduced capacity of 45,401. Work is still being done on the top tier and the roof.
Flick's team has now won all four of their matches back at their home ground.
Frankfurt, who have struggled in their league and lost 6-0 to RB Leipzig on Saturday, scored first and had chances to score a second. However, Ellyes Skhiri and Fares Chaibi both shot over the bar.
Kounde's two goals in four minutes turned the game around for Barcelona, who had lost 3-0 to Chelsea in their previous Champions League match.
The only bad news for Barcelona was a second-half yellow card for Yamal after a foul on Brown. This means he'll miss the trip to Prague.
