EDDIE HOWE DECIDES YOANE WISSA DEBUT AMID TONALI INJURY DOUBT
Yoane Wissa (29) is nearing his long-awaited debut for Newcastle after recovering from a knee injury. Howe will make a decision soon.
Yoane Wissa is trying to get into Newcastle United's squad for Saturday's home game against Burnley. It would be his first time playing for Eddie Howe.
Wissa hasn't played since early September because he hurt his knee playing for DR Congo. He joined the Magpies at the last minute but hasn't played yet.
The team paid £55 million to get him from Brentford. He's been working with the club's doctors to get better from his knee injury. He started training harder last week.
The 29-year-old also played in a private training game. Howe said he'll play in another one this week before the game.
This means the striker might be able to play on the bench when Burnley comes to St. James' Park on Saturday for a very important Premier League game.
Howe didn't say much about Wissa's chances of playing. He said he needs to watch him train for the next two days before deciding.
"I don't know; we will see how the week goes," he said. We've got a lot more training to do, so we'll see.
Newcastle got good news this week: Wissa won't be playing in the African Cup of Nations next month with DR Congo. People were worried he'd leave as soon as he got better, missing a month of games during the holidays.
But he wasn't picked for the DR Congo team, so he's staying in Newcastle to get better. This means Newcastle doesn't have to hurry him back into the team.

As for the transfer window, Premier League spending rules kept Newcastle’s hands tied. Howe didn’t sugarcoat it: “Financially it wasn’t possible. We’re under restrictions and had hardly any money to use this window, so we’ll wait for the summer when the market opens up and maybe we’ll get better value.”
He admitted the squad’s still a bit lopsided, especially at the back, but he’s convinced that a healthy squad changes things.

Asked about the chances of players returning against Manchester City, Howe said, “Probably our best bets are Sven and Lewy since they were on the bench at Liverpool. For Bruno, I’m not sure—there’s a chance, but the others are definitely out.”
But just before the City game, Howe gave another update. Turns out, both Bruno and Miley are out for this one. “Yeah, Bruno’s doing well, but I don’t think he’ll make this game—maybe the weekend. Sven Botman is okay, but I’m not sure about Lewy either.”
