Nick Kyrgios's Australian Open comeback. Find the latest news, injury updates, and analysis on his Kooyong Classic entry and preparation. Follow the star's journey back to the top of the tennis world.
Nick Kyrgios is planning to test his readiness for the Australian Open in Melbourne this January. He'll play in the Kooyong Classic the week before.
Kyrgios hasn't played since the Miami Masters in March. Before that, he made brief appearances at the Brisbane International, Melbourne Park, and Indian Wells after being out of action for two years.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist had knee issues and then a wrist injury that needed surgery last September. He had to stop his comeback when the knee pain returned.
Kyrgios told AAP that he's feeling good and thinks he can play professionally again.
He said that around late July, he didn't think he could play the Australian Open. However, something changed in the last month. His knee isn't swelling or feeling bad after practice.
Kooyong Classic director Peter Johnston said Kyrgios seems confident about playing in the exhibition, which is back after a break in 2025.
Johnston said it's great to see Nick playing singles again. He's said that Kyrgios brings something special to the court, and you know something memorable will occur when he plays.
Kyrgios needs to prove he can maintain his fitness from training and exhibitions on the pro circuit.
After a career-best season in 2022, where he played 52 matches, he's only played six matches at the top level in the last six months.
The former Australian Open doubles champion will play an exhibition against Tommy Paul in New York next month.
Then, Kyrgios will participate in a World Tennis League event with Daniil Medvedev and Gael Monfils leading into Christmas.
He's also scheduled to play Aryna Sabalenka in a Battle of the Sexes exhibition in Dubai on December 28.
It's unclear if Kyrgios will play in the Brisbane International.
Kooyong has attracted a good group of players, including Wimbledon semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti, Alexander Bublik, and Flavio Cobolli.
Matteo Berrettini and Karen Khachanov are also scheduled to attend, so Kyrgios will understand immediately where he stands before the Australian Open.
Johnston said that Kooyong continues to attract players who want to get ready for the Australian Open.
RECORD SEASON DONE: NOVAK DJOKOVIC RETREATS TO AMANYARA'S SANCTUARY
After a historic 2025 season, Novak Djokovic is recharging at the exclusive Amanyara resort in Turks and Caicos. The tennis legend is enjoying a wellness-focused break as the Global Ambassador for the Aman brand.
After another historic season, Novak Djokovic has escaped to a distant paradise. The 38-year-old tennis star chose Amanyara, an exclusive resort in Turks and Caicos known for its beautiful nature and privacy.
Djokovic picked this retreat to recharge after a season where he pushed the limits of what's possible in tennis.
In 2025, he won two ATP titles, passing 100 ATP trophies and finishing the season in the top four despite his age and physical condition.
Now, he is ready for a rest before the next season. Amanyara, located on the shores of an 18,000-acre nature reserve, offers balance, calm, and wellness.
Its tropical pavilions, half-mile of white sand, and turquoise waters give him what he needs for his off-season reset.
Djokovic's connection with the resort is more than just a vacation. In 2024, the 24-time Grand Slam champion became a global ambassador and wellness advisor for Aman.
This started a long-term partnership that fits with his fitness and mental wellness approach. He now shares his knowledge with the brand's guest experience.
This week, the eight-time year-end number one player is enjoying the quiet side of the partnership—downtime from competition and the ATP schedule.
Even though he chooses his schedule and only enters events when ready to compete, Djokovic still needs to rest after the challenges of the year, especially with issues in his right shoulder.
He reached all four major semi-finals. He also competed in the Miami Open final and won two ATP 250 titles in Geneva and Athens.
His most recent title in Greece was special, as he won it in front of friends and family. After adding to his greatness, Djokovic gets to relax and prepare for the 2026 season.
He chose a suitable resort, and while he enjoys the calm of Turks and Caicos, we know that rest only makes him stronger.
ANDY MURRAY'S TAKE: DANIIL MEDVEDEV'S ODD TECHNIQUE MAKES HIM 'DIFFERENT
Andy Murray reveals he was a big fan of watching Daniil Medvedev play, praising the Russian's "unorthodox" style and on-court intelligence. Murray lost all three of his professional matches against Medvedev.
Andy Murray has said that he both loved playing and watching tennis during his impressive 19-year career.
Murray ended his tennis career last year at the Paris Olympics, where he played his last match with Dan Evans in the doubles.
After his final match, Murray spent six months coaching Novak Djokovic.
Though Murray has experience playing against and coaching Djokovic, he said back in 2022 that another Grand Slam champ was someone he really liked to watch.
Murray said he was a fan of Daniil Medvedev. He told the media at the ATP 250 event in Metz that year that he enjoyed watching Medvedev play.
Medvedev was ranked number one for 16 weeks in 2022, after winning his first major title at the US Open. Murray said he liked Medvedev’s unique style.
Murray said, “I like watching Medvedev play. His game is different from many players. He seems unorthodox, and I like players who aren't textbook.
He added that, in the UK, coaches focus a lot on perfect technique. But when you watch someone like him, his technique is strange. It doesn't look like he should be as good as he is.
Murray finished by saying that Medvedev is smart on the court, moves well, and knows where to hit the ball. It’s not just how you hit it, but where.
When Murray played Medvedev, things weren't quite so enjoyable for Murray.
Murray played Medvedev three times but never won a set, and all their matches were on hard courts.
Their last match was in the Qatar Open final in 2023, where Medvedev stopped Murray from winning.
Now that he’s retired, Murray can just watch Medvedev, who has had a tough time in 2025.
Medvedev only won one Grand Slam match this year, though he saw a slight comeback near the end of the season and finished just outside the top 10.
