WHAT IS THE WARNING: ENZO MARESCA SENDS A STRONG MESSAGE TO BARCELONA AHEAD OF CL
Enzo Maresca says Chelsea are full of confidence ahead of their Champions League clash with Barcelona. The Blues are unbeaten in five games but will be without the injured Cole Palmer.
According to Enzo Maresca, Chelsea feels confident heading into their Champions League game playing Barcelona, the current Spanish champs.
The Blues came back from the November international break with a solid 2–0 win over Burnley on Saturday, thanks to goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernández. Securing this victory makes it five games without any defeats for Chelsea in all competitions.
Once the Premier League game is done, Maresca and the team can shift their focus to the big game against Barcelona. The Catalans, who've scored 14 goals in their last four games, are coming to Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2018.
The Spanish team will be Chelsea's biggest challenge yet in their return to the Champions League, but Maresca doesn't seem worried about Hansi Flick’s team, which includes Lamine Yamal.
“Our confidence is high; we’re doing well,” the Italian manager said after Saturday’s win. “Sure, we can improve, but it was key to get the win. We feel good about Tuesday’s game.”
Chelsea will miss Cole Palmer for this big game. The England player hurt his toe in a strange accident at home and will be out for at least three more weeks.
Five days after playing Barcelona, the Blues will host Arsenal to end November. The upcoming game will be a battle between the top two teams in the Premier League and could really change things in the title race.
“We need our fans for the next two home games. The feeling with them was great both before and after the Burnley match,” the 45-year-old coach said.
“I think they can be happy with the team. We’re second, [six] points behind the top team, and we’re happy to share these times with them.”
If Chelsea beats Arsenal, they'll be close to first place before the holidays. In the Champions League, a win against Barcelona would likely move the Blues to just outside the top eight with three games left in the league stage.
