DWIGHT YORKE DEMANDS CHIDO OBI; EX-ARSENAL STRIKER TO COVER SESKO INJURY
With Benjamin Sesko injured, Dwight Yorke advises Man United to promote youth like Chido Obi instead of a panic buy. The former striker believes the club should trust its academy for cover.
Benjamin Sesko handed Manchester United an injury scare during the draw with Tottenham Hotspur before the international break
After sustaining a knee injury against Tottenham in the 2-2 draw in north London, Sesko, the summer acquisition from RB Leipzig, has been out for several weeks.
After receiving treatment, the Slovenian hobbled off before the final whistle after making an appearance as a second-half substitute.
After using all five substitutions, Ruben Amorim's team was down to ten men at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Matthijs de Ligt scored an equaliser in stoppage time.
Joshua Zirkzee is the only acknowledged centre-forward available to the United head coach due to Sesko's injury.
Yorke said Snabbare, "I think Amorim has to invest in the young players and bring some fresh talent through to provide a little bit of a chance if Sesko is out injured."
"We have seen United try it in the past, and it has not worked if you are going to bring in a makeshift option as cover. The squad is too huge to add a player who is not a good fit. If they were working extremely hard to get someone else in there, I could understand, but when things are not going well, it is a challenging fit.
"I believe United has to go out there like Liverpool and bring in someone who would have a really huge presence at the football club if they are going to sign someone else. If not, there is a reason the under-23s are there.
The former United star feels that his previous team already has a young player named Obi who is capable of replacing Sesko, so they do not need to go into the transfer market.
Continue reading "What about Chido Obi? I am aware that the first-team rosters are large, but you need to surround the team with these young players in case something like this occurs. The kids could practice with us while I was at United, and we would then let them play so they could gain game time and continue to train. It is so they will be prepared when they arrive. I would have a look at that.
If Sesko is out, I would rather see Obi placed in. You must give them a chance if you are deserving of a spot at United. We have repeatedly observed that this is a club where young players are allowed to step in and take the lead.
You must give them a chance if you are deserving of a spot at United.
"United will find themselves going back the other way again if they are just trying to bring in someone who is just okay, and I would not go down that road." We have seen the results of that, Yorke, Dwight
Since joining Arsenal, Obi has made a few appearances for the United first team.
In the previous season, he made seven appearances in the Premier League after joining the team in the summer of 2024.
This season, he has been playing for the under-23 team rather than the senior squad.
"NOT NEEDED" LUKE SHAW TOLD HIS MAN UTD TIME IS OVER
Wes Brown believes Luke Shaw deserves an England recall but fears he isn't needed. Despite Shaw's strong form for Man United, his role as a centre-back under Amorim doesn't fit Thomas Tuchel's current system.
Luke Shaw's perceived undeserved snub is likely lack of minutes
Luke Shaw may have to concede that England does not need him before the World Cup, according to former Manchester United defender Wes Brown. After another season at United marred by injuries, Shaw came into this campaign ready to establish himself.
The 30-year-old has played in every Premier League game for the Red Devils this season and has effectively earned a spot in Amorim's plans. Shaw has been excellent for United this season, except for a lacklustre performance against Manchester City. Many expect him to be included in Thomas Tuchel's England squad this month.
Shaw, however, was passed over by the German manager, and it seems increasingly unlikely that he will be selected for the World Cup next summer. BetWright betting ambassador Brown told the Daily Star that while the defender deserves a spot in the current Three Lions lineup, his club position may be the root of the issue.
"I feel like people do not talk about Luke Shaw at all when he is totally fit because he literally does nothing wrong," he stated. He has performed admirably in that left centre-back role under Ruben Amorim, and I believe he ought to be a member of the England team.
"Where will Thomas Tuchel play him, though, is the only question? Luke is sadly in a situation where he is not really needed right now because he will not be playing centre back, and he has not been playing left back lately.
"It is regrettable since he most likely deserves to be in it more today than when he was last in it based on his performances. But all Luke can do is continue to perform well.
"Will he be chosen? Tuchel might appreciate what he already has, so I am not sure."
Shaw has put on some of his best performances when sporting an England shirt. In the Three Lions' defeat by Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium, he scored the team's goal.
Shaw was chosen for Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad despite playing in just 12 Premier League games in the 2023–24 season.
Shaw has already expressed how much he loves playing for his country.
Shaw stated, "As an England player, you always have ambitions of playing in big tournaments like that and you know, they had a wonderful World Cup that year [2018]," before his selection for Euro 2020. Although it is one of those things where you want to participate, I was content to watch it.
"Enjoying [being with the England group] is the most important thing, as you say. I am just going to return to the team, be myself, and go there.
"It is a huge honour to be back for your country, and whether I play or not, being back in the squad is wonderful for me, and I am extremely delighted that I can be in the group."
Shaw will have another chance to earn a spot in the England squad during the last international window of the season in March.
MAN UNITED EYE £60M KARIM ADEYEMI AS TRANSFER TALKS HEAT UP
Man Utd host Everton as the in-form Red Devils look to continue their climb. Off the pitch, a move for Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi looks unlikely in January due to a £60m+ price tag.

On Monday night, Manchester United will host Everton at Old Trafford in a thrilling Premier League match.
With three wins and two draws in their previous five games, the Red Devils have recently found their form again and are now seventh in the top division standings.
In the past, Ruben Amorim's team had had a rough start to the new campaign, and there was a lot of conjecture about the Portuguese's future.
However, the former Sporting manager appears to have taken some of the burden off him, and he will be hoping that his team maintains its strong run of form when they face the Toffees.
Meanwhile, it looks like United will need to shell out a lot of cash to acquire one of their transfer targets.
Borussia Dortmund will want a fee of over £60 million for Karim Adeyemi, a target for Manchester United, according to Football Insider.
The Germany international's future at Dortmund is reportedly in doubt after talks over a new deal broke down.
The star's current contract expires at the end of the upcoming season, and negotiations for a new one have not yet advanced, which has led to speculation about his future.
The 23-year-old Adeyemi joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in Austria in 2022, but in 121 games with the German team, he has scored only 29 goals and provided 22 assists.
The German striker is reportedly a target for United, but given his exorbitant price tag, the report indicates that United is unlikely to sign him during the forthcoming January transfer window.
Nonetheless, the story does imply that the striker may be offered at a reduced cost when he enters the final 12 months of his present contract next summer.
