On Saturday, the Uganda U17 Boys National Football Team defeated Senegal in the round of 32 to continue their incredible run at the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Abubakali Walusimbi's lone goal gave the Cubs a 1-0 victory over the Young Lions of Teranga in the match played at the Aspire Zone, Pitch 7 in Qatar.
With a fierce strike just outside the area at the quarter-hour mark, Walusumbi gave Uganda the lead, which ultimately proved to be the game-changing moment.
The Cubs gained confidence and started the better team against Senegal today after their historic and amazing victory against France in their last group match to guarantee a berth in the round of 32.
James Bogere, Richard Okello, and Arafat Nkoola started up front for coach Brian Ssenyondo's squad that had played against France.
Uganda got off to a strong start when Brian Ijara won possession in the midfield and passed the ball to captain Hamuza Ssengooba, who set up Walusimbi to shoot into the bottom left corner in the fifteenth minute.
Senegal then launched assault after attack, but goalie Edrisah Waibi was brilliant that day and made crucial saves.
It came as no surprise that he was awarded man of the match at the conclusion of the exciting match.
After Ssengooba suffered a head injury in an aerial battle, Uganda was forced to make a replacement in the second half.
When Bakary Sonko went down in the box in the closing moments, Senegal believed they had earned a penalty, but the decision was overturned upon review.
They got the ball in the net two minutes before the end of regular time, but it was also disallowed, this time for offside.
Uganda now awaits the Round of 16 winner between Burkina Faso and Germany.

After defeating France in their last group match on Tuesday, the Uganda U17 Boys' National Football Team, known as the Cubs, advanced to the Round of 32.
Uganda put up a strong showing to defeat France in the match played at the Aspire Zone Pitch 3 in Al Rayyan, Qatar.
James Bogere, a sharp shooter, scored the game's only goal in the first half, which ultimately proved to be the game-deciding moment.
Bogere found himself with space inside the box to fire home from Hamuza Ssengooba's lay-up in the eighteenth minute, giving the team the lead.
Arafat Nkoola started in place of Innocent Asiimwe, the sole change made by coach Brian Ssenyondo from the squad that drew with Chile in the previous match.
To have a chance of moving past the group stage, Uganda needed to win the game going into it.
The team did just that, scoring the first goal and battling to stop France's attacks.
As a result, Uganda finishes third on four points, along with second-place finishers Canada and France, the leaders of Group K. Despite finishing with four points, Chile finished in fourth place because of a lower goal differential.
In addition to the 12 group champions and 12 runners-up, the top eight of the 12 third-ranked teams advanced to the knockout stage, completing the 32 teams.

According to Calvary FC of the Uganda Premier League, the team and coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera have decided to part ways right away.
Today, Monday, November 10, 2025, the club announced the announcement through a statement posted on its official social media accounts.
The statement partially states, "The club has amicably agreed to part ways with Head Coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera."
The statement went on to say, "We sincerely thank Coach Kintu for his services during his employment and wish him luck in his future endeavours."
The comment, however, was made after the gaffer had put down his tools and expressed his displeasure and uneasiness over the pay delay.
The coach and the players have not been paid for four months, according to a person close to the team. Because of this, their early days at the top flight have been difficult.
Calvary has played five games so far this season, losing four and drawing one. Their next game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, against UPDF.
After Hussein Mbalangu was shown the door at NEC Football Club, Kintu is the second coach to be dismissed from his duties.
