MIDFIELD MAESTRO FRENKIE DE JONG LEADS BARCELONA’S RESURGENCE AGAIN
With Barcelona plagued by injuries, Frenkie de Jong's irreplaceable role in midfield is more crucial than ever. His suspension for the Athletic Club clash leaves a massive void Hansi Flick must urgently fill.
TACTICAL EVOLUTION: HOW RAPHINHA AND YAMAL ARE REDEFINING BARCELONA’S MODERN ATTACKING IDENTITY
With Lamine Yamal hitting 21 goal contributions in 2025, Barcelona looks unstoppable. Get the latest mid-season player ratings.
Barcelona is having a blast this 2025-26 season! They're heading into the winter break as the top dogs in Spain, looking good to win the La Liga trophy again.
Of course, it hasn't all been sunshine and roses; they've hit a few rough patches.
But Hansi Flick's got some top-notch players who've helped get Barca back to the summit. So, let's check out which stars have been on fire this season so far…
Pedri
Barcelona’s Pedri has been amazing this season. The guy just makes the game seem easy, and Barca's a different team when he's playing.
His numbers tell the whole story…
Because of his play, everyone's been singing his praises. Luis Enrique said Pedri is like Harry Potter before the Barcelona-PSG game in the Champions League, and Paul Scholes said he thinks Pedri is the best.
Flick's been calling Pedri fantastic, incredible, and top class, and he might be running out of words to describe how good their midfield star is.
Pedri missed the last game of 2025 because of a small injury, but he should be ready for Barca's next match. For sure, if Barca wants to win trophies this season, they need Pedri on the field.
Raphinha
Barcelona’s had to manage without Raphinha for parts of this season, but it’s not been a surprise that their results get better when the Brazilian plays.
With Gavi still injured, Raphinha seems to have stepped up as the heart and soul of Barcelona. His seven goals and three assists in just 11 La Liga games just show again how important he is to the team.
It's still weird that Raphinha didn't win the Ballon d'Or and FIFA The Best awards, even though Barca fans already know how good he is.
After Raphinha didn't win, Flick said it was a joke. Also, after the win against Alaves, the way Flick talked with Raphinha showed how good the vibe is between the player and the coach at Camp Nou.
Eric Garcia
No one thought Eric Garcia would be on this list to start the season, but he's been super important in the first half of the year.
We knew Hansi Flick liked him a lot at Barcelona, and he's proved that he deserves it with some great games in different positions this season.
Garcia played well at right-back, centre-back, and in midfield and is still playing well, even with a broken nose.
He's the only player to play in every Barcelona game this season, and he's already been rewarded with a new contract.
Flick said that he could be captain one day, this flexible star, but Garcia played down that talk in his usual humble way.
This is very different from not that long ago, when he seemed like he might leave. Now, he seems to be one of the first players on the team sheet.
Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal is another player who's had some injuries this season, but he's still been very important to Barcelona.
He's still only 18, and he's ended the year with 21 goal contributions in all competitions in 2025-26. If you look at the stats, that's one every 83 minutes—that's a great rate.
Yamal's still been a star, even though his personal life's been making headlines, and the relationship between Barcelona and Spain has gotten heated because of how the national team's been using him.
It's easy to forget that Yamal's only 18, still has braces, and is just starting his career.
After a year where he was second in the Ballon d'Or, who knows what 2026 will bring?
Joan Garcia
Joan Garcia didn't have the easiest start to his Barcelona time. Also, moving from Espanyol to Barca was always a controversial move, and pushing Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen out of the club has made people talk.
But Garcia has had no problems fitting in at his new club and has just let his play do the talking so far.
A knee injury stopped him for a bit, but he's back now and seems like he never left.
Barca signed Garcia because he was a good deal they couldn't pass up. So far, it looks like it was a very good buy.
AXEL DISASI, OTAMENDI OR NATHAN AKE ? THE SECRET LIST OF DEFENDERS OFFERED TO HANSI FLICK
Barcelona pivots to January signings after Andreas Christensen’s ACL injury. Nathan Ake and Axel Disasi lead the shortlist.
Barcelona wasn't planning on doing much this January, but that might change since Andreas Christensen is out for months with an ACL injury.
Hansi Flick said he'd talk to Deco about it, and now everyone's throwing out names of possible short-term replacements for Barcelona in January.
If La Liga agrees Christensen is out long-term, Barca can replace his spot on the payroll with a new player. The catch? The new guy's salary can't be more than 80% of what Christensen makes.
So, who could Barca go after in January?
Disasi or Ake?
Diario Sport says Barcelona has already been offered a couple of players. Chelsea's Axel Disasi, who wants more playing time, is one option. He's stuck in Chelsea's bomb squad right now but was on loan at Aston Villa last season.
But here's the thing: Disasi can't go out on loan this January. Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea already used up their loan spots.
Sport also mentions Manchester City's Nathan Ake. He's not playing as much there and might move to get his World Cup hopes up. He's a versatile left-footer and supposedly has offers from other Premier League teams too.
Senesi, Otamendi, or De Vrij?
Mundo Deportivo has a bunch of other names. Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth keeps getting mentioned because he's likely leaving. Both Barcelona and Atletico are interested, and Bournemouth might sell him in January to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer.
MD also points out Nicolas Otamendi (37) and Stefan de Vrij (33) as possibilities for Barcelona. Otamendi is still doing well at Benfica and is their captain, while De Vrij might leave Inter since he's not playing much and his contract is almost up.
And the rest...
There are other rumors floating around too. Luiz Felipe from Rayo Vallecano, Diego Llorente at Real Betis, and Juan Foyth from Villarreal (remember that one?) are supposedly targets for Barcelona. Expect a lot more names to come up as we get closer to January.
