CHELSEA’S MIDFIELD CRISIS DEEPENS AS ROMEO LAVIA FACES LENGTHY ABSENCE
Chelsea's injury crisis deepens as Romeo Lavia is ruled out for at least a month with a quadricep injury. The £53m midfielder, with just four starts this season, faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Romeo Lavia sustained a quadricep injury during Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Qarabag, and he will be sidelined for at least a month.
After sustaining an injury during the Club World Cup, the 21-year-old has only started four games this season and has yet to play 90 minutes for Chelsea. He will now likely miss another extended period of time due to injury.
Lavia has made 29 appearances in the two and a half years since moving from Southampton for £53 million, and Chelsea, who have been cautious to ease the midfielder back into action, has suffered a serious setback with his most recent injury.
Even though Lavia was only allowed to play one game per week due to a stringent fitness regimen, the Belgian international is now anticipated to miss matches against Burnley, Barcelona, Arsenal, Leeds, Bournemouth, and Atalanta.
With Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez both playing through discomfort in recent weeks as Chelsea's injury issues worsen, Lavia's injury comes at a time when Enzo Maresca had been eager to switch up his midfield options.
Chelsea's 3-0 victory over Wolves moved them up to third place in the Premier League standings, but they will have a busy schedule of games following the international break.
Levi Colwill and Dario Essugo are still long-term absences, but the Blues hope to be able to welcome back Cole Palmer and Benoit Badiashile following the internationals.
In January, will Chelsea look to replace Lavia?
Lavia's longevity at Stamford Bridge is still in doubt because he has only played 1,341 minutes of football in 30 appearances and has never finished a full game for Chelsea.
Although Maresca greatly admires the former Manchester City star, the Italian is being forced to rely more on other players due to his frequent absences.
Chelsea may begin thinking about a loan exit for Lavia at some point in 2026 since they are unable to recover even a small portion of the transfer money they paid in 2023.
ENZO FERNáNDEZ INJURY RAISES CHELSEA FEARS AHEAD OF CRUCIAL FIXTURES
Chelsea's Enzo Fernández will miss Argentina's final 2025 matches to address a knee injury. The midfielder has been playing through "bone edema" for four months, seeking recovery before the season's crucial period.

Enzo Fernández disclosed that he had spent the last four months battling a knee problem. He will therefore miss Argentina's final two 2025 matches.
The midfielder had one of his greatest games of the season as Chelsea defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0. But following the game, he said that his persistent knee problem was the reason he had skipped La Albiceleste's November training.
"I have been talking to the national team medical personnel about my knee problem, which has been bothering me for four months," Fernández told ESPN. We decided it would be best for me to take these two weeks off since the season's pivotal period was drawing near.
"I have endured a lot of hardship. In order to resume training and playing alongside my teammates, I will strive to fully recuperate over the course of the next two or three weeks.
The injury has "grown worse" in recent weeks, according to Fernández.
He revealed that he has had severe discomfort for the past month as a result of "bone oedema."
"Because I have been playing so many games, I have been battling with a bone oedema that has gotten worse in recent weeks," Fernández stated.
"It was beneficial that we discussed it with the medical staff in Argentina and determined that this was the best course of action for my knee."
The Chelsea player left Argentina's camp back in October due to a similar knee problem.
The 2022 World Cup winner has already surpassed the 1,000-minute mark this season after playing 16 games for Chelsea in 2025–2026. Additionally, during the October international break, he played 78 minutes for Argentina.
Fernández has participated in 51 club and national games overall in 2025. Fernández and his colleagues have little time to rest and recuperate between seasons due to Chelsea's 2025 Club World Cup championship run.
CHELSEA STAR MALO GUSTO DETERMINED TO SECURE TOP-FOUR FOLLOWING WOLVES WIN
Malo Gusto scored his first professional goal to spark Chelsea's 3-0 win over Wolves. The victory fuels the Blues' top-four Premier League ambition as they aim for a second consecutive Champions League qualification.

After opening the scoring in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Wolves at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea's Malo Gusto set his sights on another top-four Premier League finish.
After the Blues had frustrated home fans with a gloomy first forty-five minutes, the full-back, who had never scored in his professional career, showed up inside the box early in the second half to head in Alejandro Garnacho's cross.
The lack of penetration from a side whose game strategy seemed to be to try to pass Wolves to death in midfield caused Enzo Maresca's players to be jeered off at the half.
Chelsea swiftly amassed a tally that more accurately represented their control over managerless Wolves, who are currently eight points outside of safety, even if Gusto's goal did not exactly unleash the floodgates.
Garnacho received his second assist with a strong run and cross for Pedro Neto, after Estevao Willian, who had come off the bench, had set up Joao Pedro to make it two.
However, Gusto's breakthrough at finally, over 160 games into his senior club career, was largely responsible for the victory.
He said on Chelsea's official website, "It has been a long time since I came here, and this is only the beginning." "I am rather pleased. This is the one I have been anticipating. I am overjoyed.
It was a significant victory. Before the international break, we had a tremendously crucial performance, and our goal is to place in the top four. We will continue to fight and go forward.
My objective was to bring players into the box as part of our approach. It was crucial to our victory, and we demonstrated that.
Chelsea finished Saturday as the division's leading scorers and restored their reputation near the top with their fourth league victory in five games, despite a sloppy first-half performance.
According to Maresca, the club was a year ahead of schedule due to their Champions League qualification at the end of the previous season, and they seem to be improving this season as well.
Gusto stated, "We had a lot of trouble finding space between the lines in the first half, but we were much better in the second half." We found our guys much more easily after the manager told us to be patient and that the opportunity would present itself at halftime. I believe that is how we got the first goal.
"As a collective, we must continue to develop something."
The setback in west London is probably going to have been the only game in charge for caretaker James Collins, who had stepped up from the under-23 squad, as Wolves appear to be planning to name Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards as Vitor Pereira's permanent replacement.
He claimed that because we were organised and difficult to beat, "I felt we established a foothold in the game." "We failed to be clinical in our counterattacks during the first half.
"After the first goal, we improved with the ball and got more open. However, the rear door was ajar.
