ARNE SLOT SHOCKS FANS AS LIVERPOOL WASTE MORE POINTS AGAIN
Liverpool's defensive woes continued in a heavy defeat to Man City, their fifth loss in six games. Arne Slot's centre-back partnership of Konaté and Van Dijk was exposed as the Reds' season turned sour.

On Sunday afternoon, Arne Slot made the quick journey down the M62, and the dismal skies over Manchester were the least of his concerns.
The last eight Premier League titles have been split between Liverpool and City, but when the two modern-day titans faced up at the Etihad, there was a class divide.
After winning back-to-back games against Real Madrid and Aston Villa, the Reds appeared to collapse, but they were quickly overpowered by City's strength.
Every time Liverpool was late to the ball, they frantically argued with referee Chris Kavanagh, clattering a sky blue shirt in the process, and lost every skirmish up and down the field.
It was just another subpar showing in a season that is rapidly losing its shine for Slot's once-glistening stars. And it all comes down to a single choice the Dutchman made.
This season, Liverpool's defensive problems have been widely reported. In reaction, Slot benched Milos Kerkez, making room for Conor Bradley to establish himself.
Even though Bradley was outstanding against Vinicius Jr. that week, he was chasing shadows against Jeremy Doku, who was inspired.
Doku was a continual source of trouble for Liverpool, and he scored his well-earned goal—City's third—with the enchanted strike that Reds supporters have come to expect from Mohamed Salah.
Slot must, however, address the centre-back duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Van Dijk's abilities appear to be ebbing away; while he may be upset that his goal was disallowed, his defence of City's second goal is unacceptable.
A limp leg protruded from the Dutchman's backpedalling towards his own goal, leaving the ball over a flat-footed Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Since Konate was identified as Liverpool's primary vulnerability, City put pressure on all of the players, giving the Frenchman time with the ball so he could leap on a misdirected pass.
Konate got the most touches on the field during the first half, with City players accounting for the next four.
Slot wanted Marc Guehi since Liverpool is lacking in the back, but he can not keep letting the Frenchman fall to the wolves.
The Reds have already dropped behind Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, lost five of their previous six Premier League games, and are now far from the top of the table.
Liverpool's Premier League schedule is getting easier as they play Nottingham Forest at home, West Ham away, and Sunderland at home next.
Anything less is unacceptable for Slot and Liverpool; all three must win.
LIVERPOOL TO OFFER £88M FOR ITALY’S HIGHLY-RATED INTERNATIONAL ACE
Inter Milan plans a January defensive overhaul, targeting Nathan Aké and others to rejuvenate an ageing backline. The move comes as Liverpool is linked with a shock €100m bid for star defender Alessandro Bastoni.

In January, Inter Milan plans to strengthen their defence line as part of a larger strategy to lower the average age of the team and maintain their hopes of winning the championship. Although the Italian team has excelled at home, recent results have cast doubt on their defensive endurance and depth. Ilgiorno claims that the Nerazzurri are evaluating several targets, including Nathan Aké of Manchester City, in an effort to revitalize Cristian Chivu's aging defense.
The defense line is under increased scrutiny after they gave up their first goal in four games against Kairat in the Champions League. Even though Inter's defense has only given up 12 goals in Serie A thus far, one less than they did under Simone Inzaghi the previous season, there has been a noticeable drop when compared to their championship-winning performance. They had only given up five goals at that point in the season.
The influence of age is becoming indisputable. Matteo Darmian becomes 36 in December, and Francesco Acerbi, 37, is reaching the conclusion of his contract. The 33-year-old Stefan De Vrij is also approaching the end of his contract, which expires in June 2026.
Marotta's Financial Confidence Beppe Marotta, the club president, has highlighted Inter's financial development and indicated that the team is now ready to make calculated investments. "It is a significant and intentional accomplishment that we have finished our financial statement with a profit for the first time," Marotta added. "The club has exhibited caution and insight. We have succeeded in advancing our ideology because the ownership has established certain rules and goals.
With revenues climbing 37% to €546 million, Inter reported a €35 million profit as opposed to a €36 million deficit the previous year. This better financial situation has made room for a possible January addition to bolster the team.
Aké, 30, is one of the top names being considered. This season, the Dutch defender has only made six appearances for Manchester City in Premier League and Champions League games. He is rumoured to be open to a move to get more playing time, with the 2026 World Cup in mind. Crystal Palace and Juventus are also keeping an eye on him.
Other possible choices include Dayot Upamecano, 27, whose contract renewal negotiations with Bayern Munich have so far stagnated, and Marc Guehi, 25, of Crystal Palace, whose youth and profile appeal to Inter's recruitment approach. Younger defenders like Oumar Solet of Udinese and Mario Gila of Lazio are also being scouted in the meantime. Tiago Gabriel, 20, of Lecce, is regarded as a long-term investment with promise.
The Interest of Liverpool in Bastoni
In a shocking turn of events, Ilgiorno revealed that Liverpool is willing to put Inter to the test by making a €100 million offer for Alessandro Bastoni. The 26-year-old, whose contract expires in June 2028, is still among Serie A's most accomplished defenders. With an annual salary of €5.5 million, Bastoni ranks among the club's highest earners, along with Nicolò Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Inter is steadfast for the time being. However, the temptation might increase given that English teams are frequently prepared to pay top dollar, especially if the Nerazzurri look to add new defensive players.
FABRIZIO ROMANO: LIVERPOOL IN ADVANCED TALKS TO KEEP SZOBOSZLAI
Fabrizio Romano reports Liverpool is in advanced talks with Dominik Szoboszlai over a new contract. The Reds are pushing to secure their potential future captain on a long-term deal with an improved salary.

Taking over as sporting director in 2024 was not an easy task for Richard Hughes. Prior to starting a plan to rebuild the Reds' team, he had to deal with contract concerns.
The summer saw the realisation of this strategy, but it is only the beginning. Hughes still needs to plan to replace some of the club's ageing players, even if he has cut ties with many of the old guard.
It is irrelevant how long Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah will remain at Liverpool. Their contracts, which end in the summer of 2027, are not certain to be fulfilled by either of them.
It is possible that he could go much earlier for the former candidate.
There are other factors to take into account. At the conclusion of the season, Andy Robertson's contract will expire. Ibrahima Konate's does, too. It is unclear if they will both remain at the club.
Liverpool is working on transfers at the same time. Even though Hughes made a significant investment during the summer transfer window, his team is not flawless.
Hughes will need to add more stars in order to create the proper combination because the Reds lack balance.
especially at centre back, where Liverpool lost out on Marc Guehi in the closing hours of the transfer season.
However, they have also been attempting to sign a left-winger for a while, and Antoine Semenyo might become available next year, which would be a great addition to the Reds' roster.
Hughes will create a core group in the process that will be able to produce a super team for many years to come, even after its star players, like Salah and Van Dijk, have long since left.
For Hughes and Michael Edwards, this has always been the objective. They are aware that staying at the top for decades is more challenging than actually reaching it.
It is quite easy to collapse, particularly when legends retire and characters change.
Liverpool is aware of how simple it is. They experienced it in the 1990s, and following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in the middle of the 2010s, they witnessed Manchester United's stunning decline.
Finding the present members of the team who can step up and lead this group will undoubtedly be a crucial aspect of the future.
With a contract with the club through 2028, Dominik Szoboszlai is now the front-runner for that position. But Liverpool wants to extend his contract because they believe he may be a captain in the future.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that negotiations between Liverpool and Szoboszlai's team are presently progressing.
"Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai are new contracts that Liverpool is working on," Romano stated.
"There has already been some very preliminary discussion with Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, and negotiations are currently moving forward between Liverpool and Szoboszlai on a new deal.
"Let me clarify. The negotiations are not yet at their conclusion. Although we have not reached a verbal agreement with Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool and Szoboszlai are still in communication.
So, a conversation is going on. The good news is that Liverpool is willing to increase his pay.
Even though Dominick Szoboszlai was already receiving a competitive wage, his results have been outstanding.
"Gravenberch is also performing extremely well; therefore, Liverpool wants to retain both players for the long run. However, in the last few days, Liverpool has made progress in their negotiations with Dominik Szoboszlai.
"A discussion and a negotiation are currently underway. Once more, the negotiation is far from over.
"There is still work to be done, so it is not a done deal, but there is a great connection, and Liverpool is attempting to move quickly on this one with Dominik Szoboszlai."
