According to Sources, Belgian strategist Paul Joseph Put has decided to stay with the Uganda Cranes.
This comes after weeks of rumours that the 69-year-old coach was being courted by Cameroon, a powerful African nation, for his services.
On November 2, 2023, Put was hired on a two-year contract to take over as Cranes' head coach, replacing Milutin "Micho" Sredojević.
Although that agreement has now ended, it is believed that a renewal is on the horizon; FUFA's formal confirmation is still awaited.
According to sources, Cameroon and other national teams were interested in luring the former Burkina Faso manager away from the Pearl of Africa due to the uncertainties surrounding his contract situation.
Put's previous match-fixing incidents brought him initial criticism, but the Cranes' results under his direction have clearly improved, and he has since won over supporters.
From a successful World Cup qualifying campaign to their first appearance in the CHAN quarterfinals and their pursuit of a return to the Africa Cup of Nations since 2023, Uganda has made significant strides.
The case that he merits a new contract has been reinforced by these accomplishments.
The Ugandan football community had been anxious about his future, but there is now hope that FUFA will negotiate a new two-year deal for the Belgian soon.
Even while it seems obvious that FUFA wants to keep Put, considering the interest from other parties, his acceptance is still the last piece of the puzzle.
However, it is said that all sides are on the same page and that a resolution is imminent.
Calm appears to be returning to the camp as Uganda prepares for the international break in November.
In a tough test for Put's charges before the continental championship, the Cranes will next take on Morocco, the top-ranked team in Africa and the hosts of the forthcoming AFCON.

At the former Legends/Kampala Rugby Club on Saturday night, the Toyota Buffaloes and KCB KOBs gave rugby fans what they came for in their round three match of the 2025 Uganda Cup.
It was a slow drag in the first half. While the backs' kicking exchanges revealed their backfield inefficiencies, the packs interfered with each other's set pieces.
Except for young Hussein Shein and seasoned Joseph Aredo, it ended without a penalty.
However, the second half was delicious. Fans stood up in excitement when Shafiq Okole and Douglas Musoke, two substitutes from both technical benches, experimented with the brakes.
Three minutes after the interval, Moses Olweny scored a try after Musoke made a lung-bursting dash from his own 22-meter line. Five minutes later, Shein added a penalty to make the score 11–03.
At the hour mark, the score was 11-06 after Aredo's penalty kick in the 51st minute.
For most of the half, the Buffaloes had the KOBs on the ropes and were ready to win. With Shein's third penalty kick, they took a 14–06 lead.
But with fifteen minutes to go, the Kyadondo team executed a stunning comeback by simply handing their opponents the whip.
Ivan Odhiambo was first given a yellow card for trying to make a tackle from an offside position. And right after, KOBs' first attempt was won thanks to Okole's exceptional genius. Ibrahim Khemis made an easy conversion to reduce the score to one point.
Then, for a risky tackle, Joseph Teko was also given a yellow. For a 16–14 comeback triumph, Khemis delivered the goods off the tee once more, and KOBs made the two-man edge count.
In other outcomes that day, Kyambogo defeated Tyrants in Fort Portal by a score of 7:00.
The battle for first place in Pool C is far from over, but if nothing goes wrong, the KOBs and Buffaloes will advance to the knockout stages.
