ENZO MARESCA LAVISHES PRAISE ON REECE JAMES FOLLOWING STELLAR MIDFIELD SHOWING
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca praised captain Reece James after his dominant midfield display in the 1-0 derby win over Tottenham. James provided crucial physicality alongside Moises Caicedo.

After playing a crucial part in our derby triumph away at Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea captain Reece James was showered with praise from Enzo Maresca.
Throughout Maresca's tenure as Blues head coach, our captain has switched between his established position at right-back and a new midfield one. On Saturday, he played in the latter at Tottenham.
With yet another outstanding display, Moises Caicedo stole the show and set up Joao Pedro to score the game's lone goal after winning possession. But perhaps even more crucial to the win was his midfield partner for the day.
Our head coach noted that James' presence there was considered vital since Caicedo and James controlled the centre of the field, even though Spurs tried to crowd out the midfield by giving them a numerical advantage there with their team selection.
It somewhat relies on the strategy. Maresca said, "I believe we needed a little bit more physicality in the centre yesterday."
It was anticipated that they would play alongside [Pape Mater] Sarr, [Rodrigo] Bentancur, and [Joao] Palhinha. They had four midfielders, which surprised us because [Lucas] Bergvall also played.
"There should have been a little more physicality in the middle, but it really relies on the strategy."
James did not appear out of place in our midfield once more. Maresca is now in the fortunate position of knowing that he can count on his captain to give his best effort as a midfielder, defender, and—possibly most importantly—a leader.
Enzo continued, "I think Reece is doing wonderful when he is playing as a midfielder, he is doing fantastic when he is playing full-back, and as far as leadership with the players inside the changing room goes."

Manchester City moved six points behind Arsenal after defeating Bournemouth in the penultimate match of the Premier League week on Sunday.
Because both teams thought they could win the game that evening, the first half was a cagey, tough contest. Erling Haaland, however, was on one side exclusively. After failing to score against Aston Villa last weekend, the Norwegian was clinical in front of goal.
Rayan Cherki broke through the Cherries defense once more to give Haaland his second goal of the night, but Tyler Adams scored his first Premier League goal to keep them in the match.
This is only the second defeat for Bournemouth in ten games this season. The gifted attackers for the Cherries were largely restricted to half-chances by the Man City defense.

In the game, Man City aimed to maintain the momentum from their Carabao Cup victory over Swansea in the middle of the week. A fierce, well-coached Bournemouth team led by Andoni Iraola stood in their way.
In a clinical manner, Haaland opened the score in the seventeenth minute. As Haaland rushed toward the Bournemouth goal, Cherki did a good job of putting the Norwegian away from just inside their own half. He hit Petrovic with a vicious blow without error.
However, the hosts' lead was short-lived. Tyler Adams gave the Cherries the equalizer from a corner. The rebound went to the American international after Donnarumma was unable to handle a risky ball from Alex Scott. Referee Anthony Taylor was protested by Man City players for a foul, but VAR checked and ruled it out. The American scored his first Premier League goal.
Despite the excellent efforts from the corner, Haaland was unable to be contained. Haaland was on his way again after Cherki's wonderful pass around the corner, and he rounded an approaching Petrovic to score a brace.
In the 60th minute, Nico O'Reilly scored a third goal to end the match. Haaland was replaced by Omar Marmoush in the 82nd minute, therefore he was unable to finish his hat trick. Overall, it is his 15th time being sent off with a brace, but he is also scored twice in his last four home games.
Rodri's comeback late in the game was encouraging. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner made his first appearance since suffering an injury against Brentford earlier in the season with a brief appearance in stoppage time.
Man City now trails Arsenal by six points in the league standings as a result. After that, they will play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League before taking on Liverpool.

DM: Nico González—7.7: Aware that there will be more competition for spots now that Rodri is back, the Spaniard put on another impressive performance.
DM: Bernardo Silva—6.8: The Portuguese will have a more peaceful evening. Sometimes in and out of the game.
RW: Haaland scored both of his goals in the first half thanks to Rayan Cherki—8.6: The creative spark.
AM: Phil Foden—8.0: On his 200th league game for the Cityzens, he played an accurate and active center creative role.
LW: Jérémy Doku—7.4: Created the most chances (4) and finished the most dribbles (5) of any player.
ST: Erling Haaland—9.1: After going blank in the Premier League the previous time out, he scored two clinical goals.
RELENTLESS HAALAND FIRES MANCHESTER CITY TO COMFORTABLE WIN OVER BOURNEMOUTH
Erling Haaland's brace powers Manchester City to a 3-1 win over Bournemouth. The Norwegian striker netted twice, assisted by Rayan Cherki, to seal the victory and keep City six points behind league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League table.

Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 3-1 to go up to second place in the Premier League thanks to two goals from Haaland.
After Tyler Adams equalised, Haaland scored twice, and Nico O'Reilly's season-opening goal made sure City would stay six points behind Arsenal.
Even though Pep Guardiola wants other players to contribute to City's goal total, he will not let Haaland slow down, and he took great pleasure in seeing the Norwegian reach 13 Premier League goals in 10 games this season.
Rayan Cherki, who made just his second league start for City after missing the better part of two months due to a thigh injury, set up both of his goals, which were his first Premier League assists.
Despite losing in the league for the first time since the season's first day, Bournemouth, who have never even taken a point from the Etihad, finished the weekend in fourth place.
Eli Kroupi turned in David Brooks' low cross from close range, but he was easily offside. The Cherries had the ball in the City net within the first minute.
In an attempt to upset City, the high-flying visitors played a risky game by using a high line, which was penalized in the seventeenth minute.
Once again playing well in the City midfield, Nico Gonzalez dinked a pass out of defence, and Cherki headed it into Haaland's path. Haaland had half the pitch to run at before putting a shot beneath Dorde Petrovic.
City appeared to be in control, but Bournemouth tied the score eight minutes later.
As he stretched for a corner, Gianluigi Donnarumma thought Brooks had fouled him, but Adams rifled home the ball to the ire of City, and Donnarumma was booked for his response following VAR. Anthony Taylor's opinion that there was not much in the contact was supported by Paul Tierney.
Etihad was agitated. Before City sought a penalty, Cherki had a shot blocked. Alex Jimenez had blocked Bernardo Silva's cross, but the ball had hit the Spaniard's leg before his hand.
Cherki and Haaland combined once more as City's supporters jeered referee Taylor. The Frenchman then played City's talisman into space before Haaland circled Petrovic to roll the ball in as their team took the lead once more.
Haaland should have released O'Reilly three seconds later, but Petrovic forced him wide before Jimenez cleared the line. Haaland was subsequently released by Jeremy Doku once more, but Petrovic palmed his shot away.
For Bournemouth, that kept the door open. Kroupi fired into the side netting to finish a brief break five minutes into the second half. The ball went to the in-form Frenchman on the penalty spot three minutes later, giving him an even better opportunity, but Donnarumma turned it away.
Just before the hour, City scored the third they needed. O'Reilly took a touch to compose himself before sliding a low effort into the far corner of the net after Phil Foden, in his 200th league game for City, laid the ball down for him.
Haaland was substituted in the 82nd minute, and Omar Marmoush struck the side netting late on before Petrovic denied Tijjani Reijnders, meaning he would not be able to complete a hat-trick.
