RUBEN AMORIM ANTICIPATES MAN UTD PLAYERS SUBMITTING TRANSFER REQUESTS SOON
Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim anticipates January transfer requests from fringe players like Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo, who risk missing the World Cup due to a lack of playing time at Old Trafford.
FREE KOBBIE': MAINOO'S BROTHER PROTESTS LACK OF MANCHESTER UNITED GAME TIME
Frustration is brewing over Kobbie Mainoo's limited minutes at Manchester United. His brother wore a protest shirt at the recent Bournemouth draw.
Kobbie Mainoo's brother is not happy about the Manchester United star's lack of playing time.
Mainoo has seen limited action for United this season, with only 12 appearances in all competitions and just one start.
He played for about 30 minutes on Monday night in United's 4-4 draw with Bournemouth, replacing Casemiro when the team was losing 3-2.
Many fans are upset that Ruben Amorim isn't starting Mainoo more often, and Mainoo's brother agrees.
Jordan Mainoo-Hames, 30, a model, influencer, and former Love Island contestant, showed his support at the Bournemouth game.
He wore a black t-shirt with "Free Kobbie Mainoo" printed on it.
Mainoo-Hames posted a picture of the shirt on his Instagram story after the game, where Kobbie had a very small part.
Mainoo's only start this season was in United's loss to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. There's talk that he might leave the club in January. But reports say he's not for sale.
With Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui gone for AFCON, Mainoo might have a chance to get back into the starting line-up. The tournament could last until late January.
Before the Bournemouth game, Amorim got testy with reporters asking about Mainoo, but he hinted that Mainoo could earn his spot back.
"If Kobbie wants to talk to me, I'm here," said Amorim.
Any player can change my mind. But it all comes down to training and games. He hasn't played much, but he's had chances, mostly last year.
I'm focused on the team and winning the next game. That's my priority.
I know there's interest in Kobbie, and I understand his importance.
Everyone, especially in England, has high hopes for him. I want to win. If he's the right player, I'll play him. No problem.
TACTICAL MYSTERY: AMORIM DELAYS AFCON DECISION TO CONFUSE BOURNEMOUTH PREPARATION
Manchester United is keeping opponents guessing about the availability of AFCON-bound trio Mazraoui, Amad, and Mbeumo for a tactical edge over Bournemouth.
Manchester United wants to keep everyone guessing about whether Noussair Mazraoui, Amad, and Bryan Mbeumo will be available for Monday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth. These three are supposed to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) early next week.
FIFA said clubs had to release players for the tournament by Monday, December 15. The tournament kicks off on Saturday, December 21. But this messes things up for United because they play Bournemouth on Monday night.
United officials talked to the soccer federations of Morocco, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon, hoping to keep these three players a bit longer. They want them to play against Bournemouth before heading off to AFCON, which is in Morocco.
On Friday, coach Ruben Amorim said he wasn't sure if the three could play and seemed annoyed, with the game only three days away.
We're still talking with the national teams. The games are on Monday, the guys are training, and we're trying to get ready for anything, Amorim said.
It's annoying, but no one knows who will play, which could be good. We have enough players to deal with it. With a whole week, you can work on different things to prepare.
Amorim hinted on Friday that United might try to use this to their benefit, saying, "Every national team has their own ideas about when they want the players." I think we'll have a decision today [Friday] or maybe tomorrow [Saturday], but we’re waiting until the last minute to pick the best team.”
Now, United plans to keep the decision a secret, so Bournemouth won't know if they'll face Mazraoui, Amad, or Mbeumo, all of whom have started the last two games.
They have one last training session on Sunday to get ready for Andoni Iraola's team, who haven't been doing great recently. They haven't won in six games and are down to 14th in the league, but they did win their last two games at Old Trafford 3-0.
Mazraoui's Morocco starts their tournament next Saturday against Comoros, which might make his situation the most urgent. Amad's Ivory Coast and Mbeumo's Cameroon don't play until Christmas Eve.
