BAYERN SPORTING CHIEF MAX EBERL BRUSHES OFF ONGOING CONCERNS OVER SQUAD SIZE

Bayern Munich's Max Eberl defends his squad strategy, dismissing burnout fears. He emphasises a smaller, injury-resilient roster and creating a pathway for youth talent as key to the club's philosophy.

Max Eberl, the sports board member for Bayern Munich, has had his work somewhat called into question following a somewhat rocky transfer window last summer. There have been rumours that his position has been in jeopardy because of the challenging task of putting together a competitive squad while also lowering the team's overall wage bills. The size of the roster has drawn criticism from both fans and critics due to the high expectations of a top-tier team like Bayern, particularly in the Champions League, and concerns about a potential burnout in the final weeks of the season.

Max Eberl, however, rejected this idea.

"I do not understand this argument. When long-term injured players Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and Hiroki Itō return, our group will be slightly smaller at 25, but it will still be highly capable, Eberl told 11FREUNDE. We began the season with 22 players.

Eberl also talked about how the squad preparation process entailed looking at the players' injury histories, since the team's efforts had frequently been hindered by injuries in previous seasons: We also carefully considered our new players' injury histories during scouting. If some members of a large squad are continuously in rehab, what good is it?

Eberl concluded by underscoring Bayern's intention to allow young players to establish themselves in the starting lineup. Additionally, we wanted to create room for younger players. "Our club's philosophy is to succeed while incorporating young players," he said in closing.

ALPHONSO DAVIES RETURNS: BAYERN'S STRENGTH BOOST SIGNALS SACHA BOEY'S JANUARY EXIT

Sacha Boey's time at Bayern is ending as the return of Davies and others leaves him surplus. The club is reportedly looking to offload the full-back to Crystal Palace.

Davies, Musiala Return; Bayern Confident, No January Signings

Bayern Munich got some good news this week: Alphonso Davies is back! He played against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, his first game since March, when he got hurt playing for his country.

After the winter break, Jamal Musiala will be back too, giving the team another choice up front. Hiroki Ito is also back after being out for a while.

The Bayern bosses think having these guys back to full strength will make the team stronger for the rest of the season. They're not planning on buying anyone new in January, but one or two players might leave.

Sacha Boey is the most likely to go. He's not the first choice at full-back, with several players ahead of him. Fabrizio Romano says Crystal Palace are interested in signing him.

Boey played a bit in September and October. But when Josip Stanisic got back from injury, Boey was back on the bench. With Ito and Davies back, Konrad Laimer will probably play mainly at right-back. Raphael Guerreiro has also played there, so Boey might not get much playing time in the second half of the season.

Bayern will probably lose money on Boey

They paid a lot for him in January 2024 to get some cover at right-back. But he had some injury problems in his first six months.

People thought Boey would be important under Vincent Kompany since he wanted to sign him at Burnley. But injuries and not playing well kept Boey out of the team last season.

Now seems like a good time for Boey to leave Bayern and find a club where he can play every week and get his career going again. Bayern won't get the €30 million they paid for him two years ago. They have a good relationship with Crystal Palace after the Michael Olise deal, so that might help them sell Boey to the Premier League team.

Olympique Marseille wanted to sign Boey in the summer, and they might try again in January. We'll see if Bayern tries to replace Boey, since they're mainly looking at long-term signings in the summer.

BAYERN'S BOLD MOVE: EBERL PLANS JANUARY TALKS TO SNATCH MARC GUEHI FREE AGENT

Marc Guehi is set to be a 2026 free agent after refusing a new Palace deal. Bayern Munich is pushing hard, with director Max Eberl set for direct talks on January 1.

Crystal Palace Star Refuses Deal, Eyes 2026 Exit

Sky Sports is all over Marc Guehi's future, and things are getting clearer. The Crystal Palace captain is one of the Premier League's most solid defenders. It looks like he'll be a hot free agent in the summer of 2026. Word is that sporting director Max Eberl already met with the player’s agent and is planning more talks. This shows how serious Bayern Munich is about him as a long-term option.

Dayot Upamecano's contract is up in the air, so Bayern is getting ready, and Guehi is high on their list. Sky Sports says Eberl will have new talks on January 1, this time with the Englishman himself, a big step in chasing him.

Contract Trouble Creates Big Chance

Guehi isn't signing a new deal with Crystal Palace. His contract ends in 2026, which has given Europe's top teams a rare chance. Liverpool, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are all watching. But Bayern is moving the fastest.

He's been consistent, mature, and a leader, making him important at Palace, even though he's said he's leaving. Sky Sports mentioned he continues to give his all for the Eagles, like when he scored the winning goal in the 2-1 derby win at Fulham.

Guehi's Growth Under Oliver Glasner

Under Oliver Glasner, Guehi has gone from a good defender to a real Premier League star. He's great at spotting danger early, staying calm under pressure, and leading the defence. This has been key to Palace's quick improvement this season.

Guehi's story, from Chelsea academy player to Palace icon, is already amazing. He signed for about 23.3 million euros in 2021 and has played 146 games since then, with eight goals and seven assists. He's also played for England 26 times, and that number will certainly go up.

Someone close to the talks said Guehi wants to know what's happening early in the year. Bayern is being respectful and has big plans, which he likes. This fits with his reputation as someone who values stability and planning for the future.

Big Battle for a Premier League Leader

The fight to get Guehi is becoming a major story this window. Bayern is making a strong push, but Liverpool and other big teams are also interested, keeping things interesting.

Sky Sports' reporting asks a good question: Who will win the race in Guehi poker, as they call it? He can start talking to teams in January, so the big moves are about to happen.
