ARNE SLOT ADMITS LIVERPOOL’S PERFORMANCE DROP FAR WORSE THAN EXPECTED
Liverpool's slump continues with a 3-2 loss to Brentford, their fourth straight defeat. Manager Arne Slot admits concern over the team's decline and inability to handle opponent tactics as title hopes fade.

Following their fourth consecutive loss, Arne Slot said that he did not anticipate Liverpool's concerning decline in play.
Igor Thiago, Kevin Schade, and Dango Ouattara all scored goals as the Reds lost 3-2 at Brentford, shattering their hopes of winning the Premier League title.
Although Mohamed Salah stopped his current goal drought and Milos Kerkez grabbed one back, the champs are still in a slump and might fall seven points behind leaders Arsenal by the end of the weekend.
"Again, disappointing," Reds manager Slot remarked. "I was anticipating and hoping for a stronger performance. It was not at all like what we usually experience. Our performances were superior to tonight's, even when we had been losing.
We have not discovered a solution yet, but teams appear to use a particular style of play against us, which is a really smart tactic to employ.
You are unable to compete, which is something we do not do at present because we give up too many goals.
"I think it is not surprising that it can go somewhat like this if you change a lot during the summer. That is absolutely another factor. To be clear, though, I did not anticipate it to follow four consecutive losses.
Slot acknowledged that Brentford's long throws posed a threat, claiming that they practised them all on Friday. Despite this, Liverpool was unable to contain them, falling behind after just five minutes.
Kristoffer Ajer nodded on Michael Kayode's delivery at the near post, and Ouattara beat Kerkez to hook the ball in.
The second goal came in the 45th minute, shortly after Cody Gakpo's compelling penalty claim was denied after Nathan Collins challenged him.
Mikkel Damsgaard made the ideal defence-splitting pass to Schade after Florian Wirtz lost the ball in midfield. Schade then gave Ibrahima Konate a clean pair of heels before finishing past Giorgi Mamardashvili.
But when teammate full-back Kerkez hammered home Conor Bradley's cross in stoppage time, Liverpool had a lifeline.
Referee Tim Robinson awarded a free kick after Ouattara was clipped by Virgil Van Dijk on the box's edge following the interval.
Thiago took care of the rest after a VAR check revealed that contact was on the line and a penalty was given
Slot believed that both penalty calls went against his team. "It is a soft penalty to concede, but it is not an excuse," he stated.
And the second before it was 2-0 was a pivotal moment. You demonstrate the penalty, and if I had to administer one at that time, it would be to Cody.
Ajer's hesitancy allowed Dominic Szoboszlai to sneak in a cross, but the equaliser would not arrive. With two minutes left, Salah scored his first goal in seven games with a brilliantly struck finish.
After losing manager Thomas Frank and several key players, the Bees were predicted to struggle this season. However, after three straight victories, they are suddenly in 10th place.
"The importance for me was that we took the game to that point," head coach Keith Andrews stated.
"It is evident that the team is expanding. We seem to be seeing a variety of performances these days. We deserved it, in my opinion. I am quite pleased with the way things are going.
DISCIPLINARY BLOW: MADRID PLAYER SUSPENDED POST EL CLáSICO TUSSLE

Los Blancos' goalie Andriy Lunin has been suspended for one game by the RFEF Disciplinary Committee for his involvement in the sideline dramas during the El Clásico's final moments. Although the cameras did not catch it, referee Soto Grado did record that he had sent the Ukrainian off.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the RFEF responded as follows when asked why Lunin received a red card.
The reason for Lunin, Andrii's expulsion in the 90th minute was that he had to be restrained by his teammates after he walked aggressively from his bench to the blonde bench.
The disciplinary committee of the RFEF
"When considered significant, those whose behaviour violates sporting order will be suspended for four to ten games or fined between 602 and 3,006 euros."
Because of Lunin's actions, which constituted a minor violation of the sporting order, he was suspended for one game. The ruling had been challenged by Real Madrid. However, the RFEF stayed steadfast, defending the referee's ruling and the evidence in the match report and on film.
Now, the backup goalie will not play against Valencia this weekend, where he is probably going to be benched. Fran Gonzalez and Sunico, both from the youth team, might be called up as the matchday squad's third choice, with Sergio Mestre serving as a backup.
No Barcelona players or any other Real Madrid players were slapped with bans following the two flash moments in the closing stages of the game. When Vinicius Jr. and Lamie Yamal argued, even players who were not on the team were spotted shoving on the side of the field. The RFEF, however, determined that nothing that came to pass would justify further prohibitions.

According to Bukayo Saka, it is feasible for Arsenal and England to win both games this season. The season has started well for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta's leadership.
Arsenal leads the Premier League standings by four points at the moment and is starting to look like a title contender. Manchester City is only one point ahead of defending champions Liverpool, who are seven points behind.
Saka, however, is not only interested in winning at his club; he also hopes to succeed internationally. Manager Thomas Tuchel has stated that winning the trophy is his ambition for England, who have qualified for the World Cup in the USA next year.
Saka is optimistic about his club's and his nation's chances of winning. "Yeah, that is my prayer," he remarked in an interview with Sky Sports. It is possible, of course.
