JAMIE CARRAGHER TELLS ARNE SLOT: FOLLOW REAL MADRID’S BLUEPRINT
Jamie Carragher advises Arne Slot to emulate Real Madrid's model to solve Liverpool's crisis. After a third consecutive defeat, can the manager integrate his £400m squad before Man United?
Arne Slot highlighted "small margins" in the loss to Chelsea
“Last season, we lost to Chelsea, too. Stamford Bridge is always a tough venue. We came very close to securing a result. Small margins. As I mentioned against Galatasaray, we had a one-on-one, and then they received a penalty. We conceded during extra time against Palace, and today they scored a goal that could have gone either way.”
“After we equalised at 1-1, I thought we were going to push for a second. Our decision-making could have been improved; the last 10-15 minutes were end-to-end action.
“We found ourselves in their 18-yard box with [Andy] Robertson, but we couldn't gain control of the ball. Again, it’s all about fine margins, as it's been since I've been here.” (Slot's remarks on the Chelsea defeat)
Carragher mentioned on The Overlap: “Considering it’s a summer of significant purchases for Real Madrid, does Slot need to embody the ideal Real Madrid manager? I often think of Ancelotti, and it seems that every summer, you’d be wondering, ‘How will he handle this?’
Even last season, the question arose, ‘How can he include Mbappe and Vinicius in the same lineup?’ But if you look back at his time with AC Milan or his tenure at Real Madrid, that was his greatest talent as a coach—he would always discover a way, regardless of the system, to position the top players on the field where they felt most comfortable and make it work for them."
